the only improvements noticeable are in the ui. so if you want a better ui, go for it.

well, that and boot time.

thanks... i definately gonna give it a try... just need to find a copy now.. i mean buy a copy now

XP, faster boot and cool UI. Stability of 2K. almost two months now and I'm happy with it. Go for it!

call the FEDS!

Why would anyone steal XP when you can get a legal, full copy for $80 (home) or $130 (Pro)?

$80 is HARDLY unreasonable for a full OS.

You want to up/down grade to WinXP just because of the desktop themes? If your rig is doing what you want it to do now, don't upgrade/downgrade. If it isn't, go for it.

If you're happy with your current setup, stay. Windows XP will not add anything besides bloat and candya$$ GUI (which you can change to classic, FYI). Having that said, I'm running XP because I had 98SE before. Remember, don't fix it if it ain't broken.

This isn't true. XP is better for gaming than 2K.

i am happy with my winxp over win2k, much better compatibility over win2k in games, and the extra little features like faster boot times was a plus

I have 2 hard drives, one with 98SE and one with XP Pro. The 98SE locks up on me at least twice a day. I have been running the XP Pro on the 2nd hard drive now for about 2 1/2 months, not one lock up, BSOD or glitch. It is as stable as anything I've seen!

WinXP was too much trouble for me, all kinds of BSODs and incompabilities with my hardware...I've spent a whole month trying to fix everything, and now I'm back to the trusty win2000/win98se combo.
WinXP still needs to get more mature OS. It doesn't seem happy with VIA+AMD+GeForce (check the forums at via.com.tw).

just follow my microsoft rule of 2's

win95 released. got it in 97.
win98 released. got it in 2000.
win2k released. got it last month.
winxp released. i'll probably get it in 2004

Win XP absolutely loves my P4 + 850i + GF3 Ti500 + TB Santa Cruz combo. The only hicup was finding the right driver for my RAID card. Win XP's native driver, and the reference Highpoint drivers caused some minor sound/mouse problems. Iwill's drivers fixed that.

Oh, and WinXP doesn't recognize the GF3 Ti500 and load native drivers for it like it does for older GF cards. So I had to install nVidia's drivers. But that wasn't a problem, I would have done that anyhow.

Win XP also installed absolutely trouble free on a PII450 + 440BX2 + TNT + TB Montego II machine that I gave my GF's mother. I didn't have to install a single driver for that machine. It was the most trouble free OS installation I've ever had. I sat there for an hour longer poking around TRYING to find something wrong. 🙂

<< Give it a try.

I'm a happy user of XP for... 6 months almost? The impression that I get: Stability, Reliability of Windows 2000 without bulky heavy-ness. It's very light, fast (boots up in 40~ secs on my Athlon 750Mhz) and stable.

:xLo

Windows 2000 is less bulky than Windows XP. An install of Win2K is around 900MB, whereas XP is 1.5+ GB.

What do you mean by "it [XP] is very light"? WindowXP is 2000 with some display perks.

If you're worried about 600 Mb of space, it's time to upgrade the hard drive along with the OS!!!

Me and 2/3 of my roommates are like it a whole lot. I would recommend it to anyone who has the min. One of my roommates is well below the min. specs and still loves it...

go for it.

The user interface has been cleaned up a lot! Try ClearType, its so cool. It anti-aliases everything that is text 🙂
