Right now Im 6'2 215lbs and a body fat percentage of about 20-20%. My wife and I decided to start doing excercise in the morning before work together, so I'm trying to decide what will be best for me. In the gym at work we have several excercise bikes (electronic), rowing machines, treadmill, etc. I like the rowers because it works out more of my body than just my legs.

Any suggestions? We are also going to work a little with weights, but probably mainly machines since I dont want her spotting me on a 215lb bench press.

Thanks

How about walking four miles a day? Low impact on the joints, burn an extra 400 calories a day and your legs will get in shape.

The cool thing about walking is that you can pretty much walk forever without tearing, twisting, springing, spliting anything.

i've been doing tihs for a few weeks now. if you cut 500 cal/day for one week you'd lose a solid pound (no water retention). its actually not that hard. all you have to do is cut off 250cal from what you regularly eat (about a candy bar or 2 cans of soda) and do 20 mins of cardio. i'm 5' 8" and was 185...now i'm around 175.

haha there's actually a book out of sexercise...there's one where the womans on top and she rides the man a little hunched over. this works the abs. i dont know...kinda too weird for me. instead of "i'm cumming...i'm cumming' she'd be going 'burning calories yes! YES!'

if you want to lose fat you need to exercise(lift) with a LITTLE bit of cardio, not too much or youll burn lean muscle mass. muscle burns fat calories.

Both of you should get reasonable quality bikes and start riding. It can be a lot of fun and good exercise.

Swimming and rowing are the bomb diggity as far as cardio goes. Very low impact, and very large number of calories burned. Both also help tone many different muscle groups.

Also, be sure to try HIIT (high intensity interval training). The intervals themselves usually vary (from a few seconds on/off to a minute or so on/off), but the idea is the same. "Sprint" for a set period of time (usually 9 seconds to one minute), and then "jog" for a set period of time (if you're doing 9 second sprints, go for around 15 second jogs; if you're doing one minute sprints, go for 1 minute jogs or so). Sprint and jog are of course relative terms if you're doing something other than running.

So long as you're doing some weight training and eating properly, you won't burn off lean muscle mass with cardio. In fact, cardio is the single best solution for fat loss, especially when coupled with diet changes. Weight training works decently, but is better suited for changing your appearance/body composition, or increasing size. But when the all of the above are grouped together, you'll be lean sooner than you'd think.
