Epson C82 and Canon i850. Both have individual ink tanks for black, CMY. The Canon is $20 more, has USB 2.0. The Epson is cheaper and has a higher resolution.
My pref would be the HP Deskjet 5550. 5550
But then again, i have had nothing but trouble with the epsons at my office, the hp's have been soooooooooo much better. YMMV
Plus, the photo quality on the 5550, is bar none the best ive seen on an inkjet.
My last inkjet was an Epson 740 and its still running flawlessly as of today. But ink cartridges are getting pricier and harder to get a hold off. Thats why these two printers look attractive: seperate ink cartridges. Numerous reviews I've read, especially photo magazines, seem to conclude that Epson inkjets in general still hold an edge with photo printing in terms of quality but lags in black&white/gray scale. Canon has always been a great all around printer with low consumables, so my dilemna has not been settled yet. More opnions are needed here.
I've been pretty pleased with my Canon S300. However, I don't have any specific experience with either of those printers. I have heard bad things about Epsons too, in terms of reliability. Of course, the sources haven't been too credible.
USB2 really should not even be on your list of pros, as even a lowly USB1.1 connection (slower than parallel) is capable of saturating the print engines of any consumer level printer.

I'm just listing the features of the printers, but they are not in any priority order (or if they matter at all).
Real printers use ethernet interfaces
Well, I can always add a print server. But isn't ethernet 100mbits/sec while USB 2.0 is 480mbits/sec?
I've always associated 'real printers' with parallel ports anyway
