Trying to decide between an HTC Incredible & Droid X

I'm finally going to get a smartphone (Verizon has even emailed me a survey asking why I haven't upgraded yet oddly enough) and it seems to be that based upon the reviews that I have read that the only phones that are worth getting are from either Motorola or HTC. A lot of folks had high hopes for the Samsung Galaxy S phones but they seem to have a fair number of problems. Right now I'm trying to decide between two phones primarily the HTC Droid Incredible and the Droid X. I would have to pay a bit more for the Droid X from Amazon (can get the Incredible for a penny currently) but they both have really good reviews. I've tried both out a bit in the Verizon corporate store near me and they both handle pretty well. Other than the fact that the Droid X is the newer of the two phones what other advantages, if any, does it have over the Incredible?

I like the bigger screen of the X(I've got an EVO) but the mod friendly nature of HTC and the Incredible. If the X has been cracked I would go with it. If it's still locked up I would go with the Incredible. I'll never own an Android that I can't root. To me custom ROM's are half the fun. If your more of a set it and forget it, then go with the X. Go to a store and play with both of them and see what you think.

I love everything about the Incredible except the battery life. I love everything on the X except for it's closed to dev nature.
Pick your poison.

I love the screen of the X, own an Incredible, I'd pick the incredible due to the support of the developers on XDA.

Battery life isn't great, but there's an extended battery available from HTC (with a new cover as well) that I'd suggest you purchase.

I suspect that there will be a successor to the Incredible in the coming months. I personally wouldn't buy a phone that's been out for almost a year.

agreed. those arent 4g phones either and verizon is flipping the 4g switch this sunday. do you really want to be stuck with those phones for the next 18 months? dual core phones are just around the corner (there are youtube videos of them), 1 ghz isnt fast enough for 4g speeds.

I would hold off a couple of months, as others have said. You're signing a 2-year agreement and the 4g phones are just around the corner. And not just 4g, you're looking at a decent line refresh from Verizon.

I didn't like the big size of the X. I can't stand holsters and like something to fit in my pocket. The incredible was the choice for me. I take it off the charger when I leave the house at 7:15AM and when I get home around 5:30PM, I normally still have 60-70% of battery life remaining. I would say average use throughout the day. (Checking email stocks, etc).

I immediately disabled the Verizon backup service as I read that is the main battery drain. All of my contacts are in my Google account, so another backup was redundant.

If you really do live in Denver like your profile says, and if you really want to be cutting edge, and if you feel like you can wait, and if you think it is necessary even though it probably isn't - then wait for the LTE phones that MIGHT be here in two months. Might. And they may not be here. And they may suck big time. But we don't know.

Or you could go with either of these great phones (HTC Incredible, Droid X) and still have a wonderful Android experience. Performance is the same on both. Screen size and amount of customization are the only differences.

I'm in the same boat, stuck with my Samsung Omina for another few months. I REALLY want a Droid X, but I'm waiting it out for it's successor.

With the coming of iPhone, Win7 Phones, potential Playstation phone, and multiple carriers 4th gen, I'm hoping there's going to be serious price wars in the near future... I looks like it'll be a great time to be a consumer with open options.

I'd go for the Droid X. I had the Incredible and the X is better IMO. The X has been cracked open enough to do nearly everything any other rooted Android phone can do. I use wireless tether on my custom themed X daily and you'd never know it was locked down. There's even ROMs that have been able to run almost pure/stock Android.

The only reason I'd wait would be for LTE though.

Given the choice between the two, I'd go with the Incredible. I think the form factor of the Droid X is too big, personally.

Incredible is free on contract from Best Buy now, fyi. Still wouldn't buy it myself, but something to think about.

Might pick up the MT4G if it goes free, right now the G2 is. A free high end phone even the contract post-paid plan isn't a bad price.
