trying to decide between a maxima (2000-2001) or F150....

Here's the situation... my 98 200sx is getting a little long in the tooth. nearing 100k miles.. and I'm just plain getting sick and tired of driving a 5 speed in this atlanta traffic. I have a motorcycle to go fast on; and now I want something I can just kind of drive without having to shift...

I'm considering a maxima, or a ford f150. Is there any particular year/model of the f150 to not get? Any to favor?

What about the F150's engines? I know there are 3.. a v6, and two v8's... which is preferred? I want something RELIABLE.

I have *about* 15k to spend. I a little more is okay, a little less is better.

I didn't put 2002+ maxima's on there because the price premium for the 3.5l is, imo, not worth it.

edit: Before you enviromental zealots start crying about how the truck gets so and so gas milage or whatever.. I don't care. I need something to haul my motorcycle and other junk around with.

I don't *need* haulling capacity. A tow hitch can be installed on a maxima.

I mean, it's not like I'm hauling a truckload of bricks or anything..

My question was a veiled attempt to ask: Why are you cross-shopping those two VERY different vehicles?

What he said. I normally don't advocate the purchase of trucks and SUVs, but mostly because many of those trucks and SUVs I see have a single driver with no payload. If you need to haul a motorcycle around, go for the truck. It's what it was designed for: hauling stuff.

It sounds like you just decided then. Unless by "motorcycle" you mean one of those pocket bikes that will fit in the maxima somehow.

To get the people hauler capacity of the Maxima, you'd have to get a crew cab truck, please don't buy an extended cab & put your kids back there, I tried & after I slammed their heads into the rear window a couple hundred times, I gave up.

It'd be difficult geting an ext cab @ that price in reliable condition.

F150 standard cab owner, voting for the Maxima & a light trailer.

Maxima would be a lot easier to live with as a dailly driver.

Count me as an F150 owner voting for a Maxima. (I'm a former Gen III Maxima owner too)

no, I mean a small (200-300lb trailer at most) and 400lb or so motorcycle... so 700lb total.. A maxima *should* be able to pull that.

hm... people hauling isn't a huge issue.. but 99% of the time I won't need to haul anything

Why do you need to haul it then? I was thinking maybe you were talking about a dirt bike where hauling is necessary.

Maybe think about a smaller truck like a tacoma/s10/ranger or the new colorados/canyons. The 4cyl tacomas get around 25mpg I think.

Get a used double cab Tacoma with a 4 cyl engine. Anything from 2001-2004 with a couple miles on it will be around your price range. I found a 2002 doublecab with a v6 and 50K miles for $17K. The 4 cylinders get better gas mileage than the 6, and they can tow 3500lbs I believe. Plus they look cool!
