Trying to create Access Point with router

Hi all, was wondering if and how I can do this and help needed with this.

I have my internet connection hooked up at the center of the basement via ASUS RT-N53 Router. Problem is the wireless signal isn't strong enough, weak signals at certain parts of the house and no signal in the garage.

Now I have two other routers I would like to turn into a wireless repeater or AP or whatever you call it. Basically I want to add one of these routers to the top floor of my house to boost signals without having to plug it into the downstairs router.

Is this possible?

I have two routers to play with;

1. ASUS RT-N56U
2. Linksys WRT54GS

Thanks for the reply jack.

But the method in the link requires me to connect a cable from the main router to the secondary router that I want to convert to an access point.

Is there a way I can do it without connecting it, like as if I used a range extender that pugs into the wall receptacle of the house. Where I want to locate the secondary router, I would have to run like a 100ft cable.

you dont want an WAP then, you want a repeater. WAPs need a cable

Use DDWRT to create a repeater. The 56U runs DDWRT, and some versions of the GS will run DDWRT also.
