And I can't get it to work. I downloaded the official drivers from MS but all my controller does when I hold the middle button is flash all 4 lights over and over. Anyone know what's wrong?

It's a controller with a play and charge kit. Googling tells me it's very much doable.

Not a regular wireless 360 controller. You either need the wireless USB PC adapter for wireless controller or a wired 360 controller. The regular wireless 360 won't work even by using the play and charge kit.

Well shucks then. The driver even says "Xbox Wireless Controller with Play and Charge Kit"

You can get just the USB receiver on ebay for not much $$$.

If you're getting this to play MLB2K09 that you just bought on Steam, I wouldn't even bother. The game is still trash even with a 360 controller.

Yes cus that's the type of controller you use it on but you need the wireless receiver. The receiver is almost like $30 so I just got a wired 360 controller for $25 instead of the wireless receiver.

Well it's not really a rule. The wireless controller transmits no info over the wire, only over wireless. That's how they made it.

Exactly it charges itsself over the cable but its still using the wireless to communicate to whatever its meant to be connected to.

Although i think its pretty stupid as well, you would think it could function as a wired controller does with the play & charge kit. Im not a big fan of wireless controllers, im glad i got a wired one its saved me many charge/compatability related problems. Works great with the pc.

Okay so, I bought a wireless receiver. Installed all drivers successfully, restarted my computer, and it still won't work. All the controller does is blink all 4 lights until I take the battery out.

You shoulda got the wired controller. No battery to worry about and it always works fine.
Not to mention cheaper.

Was it the official microsoft receiver? Did you sync them up like you would with the xbox (hitting the connect button on both the receiver and the controller)? If the controller's 4 lights keep flashing, that means it's not making a connection with the receiver.

I have had no troubles with mine -- I got the receiver because I also wanted to use my xbox racing wheel with my PC, and both work fine.

Couple of things

First, you need to 'pair' them... Read the instructions, but it's something like press the button the receiver and the green light will flash, then turn on the controller. Sometimes you also have to press the button on the controller.

Aside from that, those receivers have a known 'flaw' with them... There's a tiny surface mount (i.e. not replaceable) fuse on the PCB that is apparently underrated. I had two receivers go bad (blown fuse) before I cracked it open and just soldered the two points. I've been running it like this for a few years with no problems, I'm fairly sure the usb bus would blow before the receiver is going to catch on fire.

So, I wonder if you were shipped a bad receiver.

make sure the wireless reciever is plugged in wihtout an additional wireless reciever and that the plug n play charge kit is not plugged in either.

As SpaciallyAware wrote, you need to pair the receiver and your pad. Press the button on the receiver until it blinks, there's also a small button between LB and RB on the pad - press it next. Then the devices will link and you can use your pad. You only have to do it once. Of course if you pair the same pad with an Xbox later (button on Xbox + button on pad), the setting will be cleared and if you want to use it on PC again, just pair it again with the receiver.

Yeah it's M$ afterall. The PS3 controller works with the USB charger, but no drivers for it except 3rd party one's (MotionJoy).

Get a PS3 controller and use MotionJoy.
Which works great for many older games, but most newer one's are setup to automatically use the 360 controller if connected.

Just tried that... good idea but no go.
