Trying to connect Laptop to TV...

I have a laptop with a 7 pin (female) circular port that has an icon of a TV.

I also have an old analogue TV with a 4 pin (female) circular port that says s-video.

I just happen to have a cable with a circular plug at each end with 4 pins (male) that fits both the TV and the laptop ports.

What if anything can I expect from making that connection?

Note: I don't have cable but I do have broadband and Netflix. Are the 4 pins for video and the absent ones for audio or what?

Google said Wikipedia had the answer so I tried it.

Not only that, but I carried the laptop over to the tv and plugged it in, since my neighbor wasn't home and I can't carry a 32" crt by myself over to the big table I use for stuff. I never tried that port before and it did work. I had tv but without sound. Nice.

Sure, my lappy doesn't have hdmi but neither does my tv.
