Currently trying to decide between the two following models:

Gateway 7510 GX

and

Gateway 8510 GZ

I had to warranty return my laptop and they said it was not fixable, but I have credit towards a model of my choice :) These are the only viable choices that I have.

The 7510 got an aquamark of 27,000, and already has a gig of ram, an ATI X600 video card (dxdiag reported 256 mb video ram, tho the gateway website says 128) and a 4200 rpm hdd, but has an Athlon 64 3700 processor. It also has a 15" monitor.

The 8510 had ghetto drivers and couldnt complete the aquamark, but while watching it did maintain a higher fps. It only has 512 mb ram though, as well as a Centrino 740 processor. Its video card is a ATI X700, but only has 64(!) mb video ram. It does have a 5400 speed hdd as well as a 17" monitor

So, what would you get? Price is only a $50 diffrence, not really enough to matter.

Neither, Gateway is the worst computer brand in the wolrd. I say, get the Dell 9300!

EDIT: oh, I just read the whole thing, in that case get the 8510 GZ.

I think for sure the centrino if it is for a laptop.
The x700 is miles ahead of the x600 architecturally but I am not so sure how the ram will factor in games.

Unless you are going for pure gaming, which I see you have a winchester for anyway, I'd choose the centrino.

Have there been any issues with Centrinos running games? I'd like get as much of a destop replacement as possible to run things like Doom, HL2, BF2 and such.

I know you have to stick with Gateway but I saw a deal on Hardocp yesterday that Dell was selling XPS Gen II's for $1650 something out the door, not sure if the deal is still good but that's actually a reasonable price for a gaming laptop.

I wouldn't even try to play any newer games on either the X600 or 700.
