Hi,

As I said, just trying to build my first system from scratch in order to get
a decent PC for gaming yet save on cost as much as possible at the same time.

Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated especially if you spot any
incompatibilities or RED flags
....

Thanks again..

Ideal system:

Processor/CPU : Intel Pentium 4 550 3.40GHz 800MHz 1MB Socket 775 CPU $73.00 USD
CPU LINK

Graphics : BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express $135

Motherboard: EVGA nForce 680i SE SLI (TR Version) NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX $150

Memory : Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz $99

Hard Drive: Seagate / 320GB / 7200 / 16MB / SATA-300 - $65

QUESTION will SATA-300 work on my MOBO??

DVD : Lite-On Super-Multi LH20A1H Lightscribe DVD Burner - $40

CASE : Ultra UV Wizard Blue ATX Mid-Tower Case with UV - $20
Case Link

CPU fan : Masscool 8W501B1M3G / Socket 775 / Intel Prescott / Copper Core / CPU - $20

Power : Ultra /X-Finity / 600-Watt / ATX / Dual 80mm Fan / SATA-Ready / SLI Ready - $40

Total is $642.00

Am I missing something? I went through this many times, this is all the parts need to build a full PC from scratch right? So can this all work out? I'd be very happy if I could get a decent system like this for under 650 bucks... I know I'm a bit conservative on the Ram and also HD and also probably the video card itself, but they are all decent and later I will upgrade them... If anyone knows of a better, more modular and 'future proof' aka expandable and upgradable MOBO that I could use to stay up-to-date in the future without purchasing a new PC, please let me know....

My only concern is the SATA-300 HD compatible with my Mobo? Is the CPU going to work with the Mobo? Is the 500 watt power supply going to be enought? Thanks

General Hardware specializes in system-building threads, so this topic is being relocated from Computer Help over to General Hardware, where it should get you some good input.

Hello,
Pentium days are thankfully over and currently Intel dominates the CPU market with their Intel Core 2 Duo processors. New processors are suppose to come out tomorrow and E6550 is one of them, stock speed is 2.3Ghz and it has 4MB of cache. Plenty of speed. Since you are planning to upgrade your system in the future, I've included the GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R board, it has the newest P35 chipset and also supports both DDR2 and DDR3 ram, a great pick in my opinion. Rest of the stuff I recommend for a budget gaming build is pretty straightforward, standard yet quality ram, case with an inbuilt PSU and a HDD with 5 years warranty which also offers good Gig/Price ratio.
