Trying to add an XP machine to a W98 network...

As the title says, I am trying to add a brand new Windows XP Home (SP2) PC to a mainly Windows 98 based network here at work. This computer is to replace the current machine I have, which is a W98 PC.

For some reason, I just cannot get access to the network drives or network printers. The other computers can see my PC name listed under network neighborhood and I have great internet access immediately, but I just cannot "see" any of the other computers on our network from my new PC.

Is there anything special I should be doing here? Can anybody perhaps suggest a few small ideas?

Any comments that could help troubleshoot the problem would be appreciated.

Win98 generally used netbeui for networking. This is what would enable you to see other computers. XP uses netbios over tcp/ip to do this. If the 98 systems aren't set up to do netbios, then you won't see them. If this is a network where you are using logins to a server, then you can't use XP Home. There can be numerous odd little things that will prevent an XP system from seeing other systems. Did you try turning the firewall off and see what happens? XP does not natively let you add netbeui. You can add the netbeui protocol in XP, it is on the XP cd I believe. Went XP was first starting to hit, I added it at a couple of customers sites to get them to play nice in their 98 networks.
