Memory is still something that im not so familiar with. I'm trying to add 1 stick of 512 pc3200 ocz memory to my rig. Currently i have 2x256 of the same exact memory with the same timings, but my motherboard refuses to accept this single stick of 512. Is this normal? Or am i doing something wrong?

Usually there are only certain configurations for memory on A64's. Open up the mobo manual and see what the correct configuration is for 3 memory sticks, you might just need to put it in different banks.

Usually, A64's 3rd ram space doesn't support 2-sided ram. A good way to test is to remove your older 2x256 and replace them with the new stick. See if that starts. If not, them you might have to check on your RAM. Also, do you have the latest bios for your mobo?

yes fire, ive replaced the 2x256 with the 1x512 and its worked fine. Tried the latest bios too.

It was my belief that it was possible to use 3 ram sticks or more, but 1T would drop to 2T or the timings had to become looser.

My last possibility is that there is some imcompatability with the 2x256 sticks and the 1x512 stick because of the different timings (the 2 sticks are running at 2.5-3-3-8 and the single stick is by default 2-3-2-5). However, i cant even post, so yep.....

You must use either one, two or four modules on your DFI. Three is not workable because the board edit: the memory controllers, I should say is trying to run 128-bit-wide memory addressing and it has a mix of 128-bit and 64-bit pathways when you give it three modules. It can do one, or it can do the other, but not both at the same time.

Summary: sell off those 256's in For Sale & Trade, and slap a matching single 512 in there for 1GB total :)
