I stand corrected with SuSE then. I had not seen any information clearly stating they'll hold the release until KDE3 is golden.
I use SuSE Linux as well, and I still argue that the way SuSE puts the RPMs up on their ftp server, a couple dozen packages split up into various directories makes the barrier to entry higher than it should be.
If you're not a geek, the best you can do is use yast2, or just install them *all* blindly. Unless they've made it a lot better in 8.0, yast2 online update is weak anyway.
Finally, SuSE doesn't just provide support to the KDE team; they actually employ quite a few of the developers.
