Everything is working out of the box without a recompile of the kernel. I can't say that's ever happened to me before.

Wireless is working perfectly (*big gasp*)

Hey I'm trying Fedora 8 right now. On a laptop that Ubuntu has always working fine on though, I can't even get the Fedora 8 DVD to start the installation. I haven't troubleshot it yet though, so we'll see.
