Trying Mandrake 9.0 for the first time... any suggestions??

I am gonna try to get away from Microsoft if possible so i was told to try Mandrake. I recently got a copy of it off the net and I am going to try and install it this weekend. It is going on my k6 2 500 mhz compaq computer. Everything is integrated except for the nic card. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
 
Hope that Mandrake properly identifies the video and sound chips.
You need to know the chips used for video and sound so that if they aren't auto-detected you can manually configure both.
