Try to shutdown button, but keep restarting..help Plz

The computer kept restarting every time I shutdown. Can someone tell me what is the problem.I try check the power management and there is nothing wrong. I went into the Bios and didn't see anything. My motherboard is ECSKT600-A and running winXp pro with sp2...Please help..thanks

This happens because an error occurs when you shutdown and the PC is configured to reboot automatically in the event of such an error. If you tell it not to auto-reboot, you should be able to see some kind of error message that might give you some hints as to the problem. I think the setting is under the My Computer properties somewhere ("Error Handling" maybe?), but I haven't checked in a while and don't have a Windows box handy. Look around and you'll figure it out.

Also check your event logs and see if there's anything useful there.

How about the setting in the BIOS that says what to do in case of power failure? I've had a couple of machines where when I have that set to restart that it doesn't work right and restarts about 3/4 of the time when I turn it off via button.

"My Computer", "Properties", "Advanced" tab--towards the bottom, under "Startup and Recovery", click the "Settings" button. The resulting dialog will have a checkbox under "System Failure" called "Automatically Restart".
