If you're using windows XP

open windows task manager

go to performance tab

hold F5

it's like microsofts ' Fastfoward through time' feature.

credit to jimbob200521 to discovering this... or letting me know about it.

what does it do exactly?

It increases the refresh rate at which taskmanager is updated, it's rather pointless as if you do it too quickly, cpu usage will increase dramatically from that alone, won't accurately reflect your system resource usage, hitting it about twice ever second is likely the max you should do...

I tried it and saw spikes every 2 seconds. I thought, "WTF I have a virus spiking my network utilization"
I freaked out, then realized performance tab != network utilization.
