Ebay and Paypal are not monopolies but clearly have an annoying degree of domination of their markets (even if they are technically separate companies now) because internet auction and payment schemes are obviously not a perfect market. There are increasing-returns to scale -people go where everyone else goes, and use the sites they have heard of.

Can't think how it could be otherwise, though. Reality is just imperfect.
