agreed x3.

give me Svedka or give me death!

:awe:

Agree that svedka is awesome for mixing and very reasonably priced. That's what I drink 99% of the time. I just decided to buy something more "top shelf" to give it a shot and i was pleasantly surprised.

Straight up means in a glass with nothing else. On the rocks means add a few ice cubes. They are mutually exclusive.

You're absolutely right and I didn't catch that. I meant straight up as in with no mixers. But I should've caught that... ::sigh:: so many years of drinking and I made a stupid mistake like that :(

To clarify on Rivan's point, my name "Connoisseur" is short for "Ass Connoisseur". It was a nickname given to me by buddies in high school as I used to go on and on about my love for girl's asses and their shapes (yes I'm straight). "Ass" was a forbidden word back then so I couldn't use the full name.

It's so cute that you believe that.

I'll put it this way. I have a very difficult time holding down a shot of Popov. If I do, i usually can't drink anything else for the night as the gag reflex is too strong. Weenie that I might be, I can't stand the stuff. Couldn't do it in college, can't do it now. If you're REALLY into horrific alcohols i'd suggest trying Conquistador tequila. You can brag about how cheap and awesome that is while i enjoy my non gag-inducing liquors.

I like me some vodka, but I haven't bought any in a while. Last purchase was some Stoli several months ago.

Anybody ever try Jewel of Russia? That's some good stuff.

jewel of russia is my favorite right now.

That statement makes no sense. Straight up means in a glass with nothing else. On the rocks means add a few ice cubes. They are mutually exclusive.

Oh and on topic I also believe that most vodkas taste the same, but some of the cheaper brands (popov, banff ice) tend to leave me with a hangover if I drink too many, while if I drink smirinoff or any of the top shelf brands I wake up feeling great.

no.. getting it neat is with nothing.

I need to get a bottle of vodka...
The first time I had hard liquor I had 3/4 of a bottle grey goose in about an hour, fucked me up... ugh that was just dumb of me. It took me about 3 months to be able to consume any vodka

Have you ever tried testing yourself and seeing if you can actually taste the difference? Various vodkas should be chemically identical: 40% Ethanol in water.

You guys need to go directly to the source of great Vodka - Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Stoli is not really the same...

Minskaya and Etalon!

Vodka is supposed to be a neutral spirirt. I wonder how many could distinguish between unflavored vodkas if they were blindfolded? (I don't really drink enough vodka to have an opinion one way or the other...)

Nobody can. There was even a news story on this (20/20 maybe?) where they did a blind taste test with supposed "experts". Nobody could tell one brand of premium vodka from the other. They could tell cheap vodka though because of the "rubbing alcohol" taste.

This reminds me of the big sale my local grocery store is having on liquor.

1.75L of Svedka for $17
750mL of Belvedere for $20
750mL of Maker's Mark for $20
750mL of Jameson for $14
