Truth in humor or sheer shock value?

"I knew that girl was eighteen. She told me that her last boyfriend was Asian, and that crap doesn't start until college"

Well?

This is from 30 rock btw.

Where is the shock value? Truth in humor would be my pick, although its mildly chuckle worthy at best. And also a stretch in truth.

I suppose there's a general kind of truth in it. Girls do seem to become a lot more open to doing things they wouldn't do when they are living with the folks. Interracial dating is certainly one of the things that could apply. It's not really funny though.

That's assuming you actually bring your dates home. Teens seem to prefer having sex in cars, so your parents wouldn't meet your boy/girl friend anyway.

Idk I thought it was about trying crazy things in college lol.

it's only hilarious if sarah palin's stunt double says it, i guess.

edit- or maybe it was john doe baldwin, and it was even funnier because he made a couple awkward pauses and squinted one eye when he said it.

Question - although it was recorded in front of a live audience, did they add in the laughter soundtrack after it was said? (Like all the other laughter, regardless of the audiences.)

Probably. The show doesn't make any sense to the audience because it's all sliced up.

Think of Seinfeld. They'll do a scene in the apartment. Then they're outside. Then there's a bunch of stuff in the apartment again. If you're in the audience and you don't know about the scene from the street, then the jokes in the apartment don't make any sense. wtf are the characters talking about?

I don't get it either. Can't be interracial dating, I think that's pretty common in high school too. Besides which, aren't Asians pretty much free of any interracial stigma anyway? Asians are like Latinas, not too dark for white parents and not too dark for black parents, neither being held down nor holding down anyone else.

It may seem that way but asian men get the shaft. I admit it's probably because of our own doing though.

Asian women are pretty universal.
