Good video.

Sadly, we can understand all these things all too clearly, and yet still fail to realize our potential as a commerce-based society.

Hopefully in time, we'll see more and more corporations shift into that direction, but it'll be awhile. And then... some damn government policies will probably unhinge all that progress anyway. :p
But seriously, I think the big limiter is public investments. Once a company is backed by investors, it all tends to fall into that profit-based environment since the boards are afraid of scaring off investors and seemingly hurting the public image.
There are so many facets to the psychology of a commerce-based society, it's really quite a wonder to look at from a big picture - because none of it makes any sense until you zoom in on the individuals who ultimately screw everything up.

After my health, the only thing that matters is money. If you're dead, your billions won't help you. But as long as I'm healthy, give me money; that's what I want. Money <--

That's a great video. It has always been the way I think companies should be run. When I worked as a server tech my motivation was not really money, it was to make the environment better. But they put so many barriers and red tape that every time I did do something to make things better I'd get in trouble, so I gave up. I left the job not because of money, but because I just felt unmotivated because of the environment and the way the crazy IT manager ran things. It just so happens that my new job gives me more money, but it's not the sole motivator as to why I left.

I know that if I ran a company, I would make sure that the environment is fun and motivating, and that there's not red tape and barriers that stop people from being able to do things how they like and if they think they can improve something, they'd be listened to and it would actually be considered. Not "No that's the way it is because [...]" and the person's idea is shot down. Overall if you make a great work environment where people feel that they can do a difference and that their work is appreciated, they're much more motivated.

Fear

Everyone is motivated by fear.

Fear of rejection
Fear of not having enough money
Fear of not being seen as successful
Fear of not having sex
Fear of dying

If you look at it, almost everything you say, do, buy, and think is generally done with the fear that you need to avoid a specific thing.

Me too.

Thats why I have no life.

Have noticed the guys who get the most sex are the ones who dont really seem to want it. They are motivated by other things, like winning and being awesome. Then the chicks just naturally seem to flock to them.

Saw this quite a while ago on here, or maybe it was a different one. I remember this one, but it seems like there was more to it, like around the end.

Around 7 minutes it says people play musical instruments on the weekend. Why do they do it, it won't make them money or get them a mate. I'd say that's way off, there's a lot of people that do it specifically in the hopes of those two things.

Well necessarily lies, I am convinced that we are motivated by what we lack the most.
No. Think Tiger Woods. He had plenty of *wink*wink* but still pursued more *nudge*nudge* to his ultimate detriment.

And even that was tame compared to the risks some people run for the same ends.

Yes, people are motivated by what they enjoy, but we mostly enjoy one thing in particular.
