Trusty radeon 9600 turbo, or just leave my integrated 6100 as it is?

Hey guys, I just bought a computer for my parents and little brother, now they don't play many games but I have an old radeon 9600 pro turbo (saphire) and I was wondering if I should throw that in there over the integrated stuff.

I will by them a new video card when the time comes but at this point it doesn't really matter.

Well, if you aren't going to do anything with it, you might as well.

As long as it has an AGP slot it wouldn't hurt. It will off-load all of the borrowed memory the 6100 Integrated graphics uses.

Yeah for 2D stuff it'll be just as good, and free up memory for applications. In older games it'll probably perform just as well (or a lot better, the 9600 has twice the pipelines), however it won't support quite the same level of pretty graphics in newer games. The 6100 also supports some of the video enhancement features of the GF6 series which the 9600 can't compare with, but for they probably won't even notice.

Newer games that take advantage of the 6 series features won't even run decently on that igp. Sure it'll look pretty, but you'll get the same frame rates as you would looking at a .jpg file ;)
