The last part of the tweet was left out here. He said we'll see which way to go after the 14th day. To me a little short term pain is definitely better than an unchecked virus which could potentially kill 10% of the people it infects. I would hope that if I was the old person that the younger generation would look out for me and do things to prevent more deaths. At least wait until we have enough PPE for medical personnel and enough ventilators for those that are going to need it.
Sure they would...

JEDI is either a closet Republican who needs to come out or JEDI is just one very uninformed human being!
Peoples lives Trump the inconvenience of staying home and for that amtter the invonvenioence of not working!
There is no acceptable plan that that says losing a lives due to this is acceptable!
If Trumpty Dumpty had his way we would all be working and socializing and preparing to vote him another 4 more years!
Trump was dead wrong -- 100% wrong in his tweet!
The problem is that Trump is NOT thinking about the american people!! He is taking this very persdonal -- as in what am I( Donald Trump) going to lose?

**********************************************************************

In a tweet late on Sunday, Trump tweeted: “We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself,” adding that at the end of the 15-day shutdown period, “we will make a decision as to which way we want to go.”

Trump issued guidelines a week ago he said aimed to slow the spread of the disease over 15 days, prompting much economic activity to stop. Trump, who had hoped to build his campaign of the Nov. 3 election on a booming U.S. economy, now is looking at the potential of millions of jobs lost.

His administration has been pushing for aggressive steps to stem the economic hit of the epidemic, after the president spent several weeks playing down the risks.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said on Sunday the lockdown affecting large segments of the American public was likely to last 10 to 12 weeks, or until early June.

One source said Trump began talking privately late last week about reopening the country after the 15-day shutdown because he is worried about the economic damage from shuttering the economy.

Trump believes “we are strong and need a strong economy as we deal with this crisis,” the source said. -- a strong economy is NOT going to cure this virus!

Matt Schlapp, a Trump ally and chairman of the American Conservative Union, backed Trump.

“I think it is soon becoming time to have old and/or sick people take every precaution and healthy people go back to work forever changed w(ith) new habits in a grimmer reality,” Schlapp said in a tweet. -- that is bull shit speaking!!

Former Republican Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, who was frequently at odds with Trump, backed Trump. “I agree 100%, @realDonaldTrump,” Corker tweeted.

Who wouldn't rather lie in bed feeling like someone is sitting on your chest gasping for breath versus staying away from people for a few weeks? I'd definitely sign up for a chance at permanent lung damage just to get back to a normal life more quickly. Screw my parents and older friends, they had their time, now it's our time boyeee!

Since the vast majority of deaths will be older individuals with underlying conditions. In many ways it comes down to if/should a dollar figure be attached to these lives. Its a very ugly situation

$ is the wrong criteria. The only criteria would be Respirators, Drugs, or Manpower. This is not an Accounting exercise.

I think Trump will end some sort of social distancing at the end of the week. The huge downfall in the stock market must be killing his ego. Plus, where do you draw the line? Our economy is at stake here. There are already going to be huge financial repercussions, but what were to happen if we shut everything down for a month? 2 months? Etc.. OTOH, if you stop social distancing, open everything back up, people get sick in record numbers, and die that will be on the federal government as well. That's a very difficult call to make.

I think for the most part we are going to have to see at the end of this week. If we don't have as many cases as they are predicting we could start to see social conditioning lifted in some form. Trump isn't known for his conserative approach to events. I also think much of it will be at the state level, and local muncipalities will make the call on how far they are willing to keep social distancing. I live in a resort town and I heard that Easter is cancelled. That's a huge lose in revenue. We depend on summer tourist, and I doubt businesses are going to shut down. They couldn't afford to shut down for the summer. That would be a death sentence. I think as more people start to become more vocal about social distancing and how it's harming their pockets, Trump will lessen the mandate. Same with states, local governments as well.

Only mornis ass hats would claim it is too expensive to save a life based on the age of the individual! Now if they are already dying of say cancer or some disease that is irreversible then that decision should be left up to the family!!

Maybe, but we have a 45% obersity rate in this country of people in their 40s, 50, and 60s. Lets not count out asthma sufferers like my sister. Also, type2 diabetes is a big issue as well, and people who have type2 don't fare well with covid-19. Many of those people aren't old, and are actually quite young.

I sort of agree, but let us never decide that people losing their lives is an acceptable outcome or shall we say -- let let us never say well they are 80 years old they are going to die anyways......

Yea. Let's not forget that there still isn't much that we know about this virus. We are learning more about this virus everyday, but we are still kinda in the dark about how it behaves. Trump could lossen the borders, air travel, etc. And BOOM. 100,000 new cases in a week, or two. It's a very difficult call to make.

Meanwhile, we have been porked by Piglosi again. At least Trump is trying to get some relief to the American people, whether you like him or hate him, he's trying. Fucking green new deal, abortion, and other stuff she wants in the bill needs to god damn wait. There was bipartisan support for getting something done, until her seething hate for the president walked in and derailed it. Rot in hell, bitch!

Well guess what folks, we have an explanation for Trump's attempt at a policy change of getting back out in public (assuming that's what he means)

He's getting policy advice from Fox News again. Trump is as great a threat to the country as COVID-19.
Remember when he was campaigning and he said what do you have to lose. America has a lot to lose right now

Bullshit. He has the authority to execute powers granted by the Defense Production Act and has CHOSEN not to do so.

It is called the Goofy virus and is highly contagious to mostly Republicans! So please wash your hands and stay inside!!

Sorry. Guess the Dems felt the senate proposal to give money to Trump donors and voters didn’t cover enough people.

And now with more GOP senators being quarantined does Mitch even have enough votes?

Guess they just have to pass a bill that helps everyone.

"WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!"

WTF is this all CAPS rant even supposed to mean, "which way to go"? At the end of two weeks he'll decide whether or not to make the cure worse than the disease?

It means that he has no idea what to do. He is just saying something to make it look like he is in charge.

There is nobody steering the ship. And that's the thing. By tomorrow, Trump will say something totally different. Then on Thursday or Friday he will deny saying either thing.

It's impossible to discern what the American plan is. Even granting that every country is thinking on its feet to some extent, there is a lot of value in reassuring the public by NOT appearing like an insane conman who changes his story from day to day.

This is completely insane that Trump is ignoring the best way to handle this, in favour of helping his re-election chances via the economy's state. So go ahead and get yourselves infected and possibly die for Reichsgeneral Trump.

The man is a moron. If he goes ahead with this, the contrast will be able to be drawn between the disaster it unfolds in much higher infection rates, compared to other countries with sane leadership that do not make the same mistake.

He's even spreading outright bullshit based on an anecdote of a Florida Man and his experience with taking hydroxychloroquine. The physicians on his case stated outright it was simply his system fighting off the virus, like most people's will, not the drug. Insane! Madness that he's spreading this sort of rot. His radicalized fanatic base will believe it, he's going to cost some of them their lives. Really, truly insane!

I guess It means that he's giving the illegal alien Chinese virus until the end of next week to vacate the premises.

I'm sure he's pissed off that he has to stand behind a podium every day and pretend to be on top of this, instead of out playing golf.

This presidency has underlying health conditions, which may not survive COVID-19. Hopefully local government leaders will handle things well enough.

Well you can spread misinformation all you want but that doesn't make it true. The critical divide is that Trump wants to give businesses billions of dollars and people a one time payment where as the Democrats would like to give the people regular form of payment - right now the argument is to do so in the form of unemployment insurance and free medical assistance.

Anyway it would be nice if you actually provided a truthful statement instead of propaganda but whatever.
