I'm under no delusion that guns or lack thereof have any impact on the honesty of our government. Maybe a couple hundred years ago, sure. Today, no. The only thing that keeps honesty alive in government is people voting for the right candidates.

Also while I'll agree in part that there is a level of dysfunctionality and corruption found within our federal government right now it could be a whole lot worse were it not for the fundamental threat of violent asymmetric warfare, i.e. rebellion that is promised by the fact that there are more guns than people in the US and that the right to own all those firearms is enshrined in our constitution.

Interesting. Who is this government you speak of? Is it some entity that exists outside of the voting process? The way I see it is that the ones most likely to bring tyranny are those that support the 2A above all else and claim to be uber patriotic Americans while shoving religion down everyone's throat while supporting or enacting laws that limit voting rights all while trying to preserve some America that used to exist or purposely trying to sabotage the America that exists now.

So it looks like there's two sides to the same coin, not some mythical second coin your imagination would have you believe.

I imagine your thoughts to be of similar logic as to what the southern states used when they tried to secede from the union. I'm sure they thought they were on the right side of history and they thought the government was beyond tyrannical as well.

You should take your own advice. Your emotional investment into the issue keeps you from seeing the point. Tyranny isn't stopped by a gun nor is it created by those holding a gun. Tyranny is stopped via an educated populace and it's created via fear and propaganda. So while you are focused on ensuring the 2nd amendment is protected you've left unguarded all the other constitutional rights.
