Well as the title says the Trump White House cancels NASA's Carbon Monitoring System. One again our anti science administration continues to put in place a put your head in the sand approach to global warming. They also canceled a bunch of satellites that were to monitor CO3 and other greenhouse gases.

http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018...s-nasa-research-verifying-greenhouse-gas-cuts

"The White House has mounted a broad attack on climate science, repeatedly proposing cuts to NASA's earth science budget, including the CMS, and cancellations of climate missions such as the Orbiting Carbon Observatory 3 (OCO-3). Although Congress fended off the budget and mission cuts, a spending deal signed in March made no mention of the CMS. That allowed the administration's move to take effect, says Steve Cole, a NASA spokesperson in Washington, D.C. Cole says existing grants will be allowed to finish up, but no new research will be supported."

If you can't (or really won't) measure it then it isn't happening I guess is the plan.

In other news looks like more aggressive renewable standards are going to be on the ballots in at least three states (Nevada, Michigan, and Arizona) in 2018.

Que up "well if it causes liberal tears then its great"

Read the article. Carbon Monitoring System put in place 2010. The Negro did it so it has to go.

Now righties can claim "we don't got no carbon problem"

Regardless of the science, such a move is one of hundreds / thousands of such cuts Trump is making throughout the government. His policy is hack and slash on small items, while inflating the deficit on tax cuts and big ticket items.

When you are going to lose a fight consisting of facts and logic, one way to "win" is to get rid of the facts. Then only faith remains.

As someone said, this is simply that Obama did it. If Obama had instituted a comprehensive program for dumping toxic waste in rivers, the EPA would now be coming out with a stronger Clean Waters act.

I'm an Independent, and this anti-science turn of the GOP is ensuring I vote across the board (D) for the future. I don't agree with all the Democrats do, but they don't appear to be trying to bring us back to the 19th century at least. Hopefully the rest of the world can pick up the slack until we can restore sanity here.

Hush people. We don't want to cause division and have the Republicans think we're extremists.

Europe already has the same program that continues. This is simply cancelling a duplication.

Not to mention, it's way easier to point to socialist whackjob Euro results and yell "fake!" or "liberal elite agenda!" than it would be if NASA were publishing them. More independent sources of data is never a bad thing, but then this isn't about facts is it. The head of the EPA declared that the War on Coal (tm) is over...how fucking surreal, but it also summarized the current state of that dept. very well.

Carbon dioxide was made up by the liberal media.
Not true. CO2 does exist. As a matter of fact most of the CO2 is the atmosphere is the result of burning ancient carbon (fossil fuel) . We know this because of the isotope ratios.

About as thoughtful as eliminating the Cyber Security position in the administration. Keep that head in the sand.

Environmental monitoring is a multi country task. We do it now with weather and climate

Its ok, we'll let Europe now do our weather forecasts based on the weather patterns in Europe. We'll save so much money without the national weather service.

Hopefully they can use the money saved for Space exploration instead.

Unfortunately it's not about saving money for Space exploration, the program itself is only 10 million its because its an Obama era program. NASA since its inception has played a vital role in the Earth Sciences. Remember those amazing Landsat photos back in the 70s. Also if they wanted to really save money for space exploration the need to cut the bloated billion dollar SLS program a rocket that currently has no payload or destination.

Where do we send donations? GoFundMe? This is what our taxes should be used to fund. Not extra yachts for billionaires...

What?! This makes my head hurt.

Based on this logic, if the euros have police officers to monitor crime we can get rid of all of ours.

Nothing to do with money. This program is peanuts. I think Trump's flights alone this yesterday to mar e lago will supercede the costs of this program .
