This CNBC story is a wee bit concerning:

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/19/tru...t-tariffs-on-all-505-billion-of-chinese-.html

He does realize that his base of voters (lower income people who mostly shop at places like Walmart and Family Dollar) are going to be the ones most impacted by these tariffs, right? When prices for all of the Chinese imported crap at those stores suddenly go up 20%, it makes me wonder how eager they will be to vote for him again in 2020.

(Of course, Trump will try to call all of the stories linking the tariffs to higher prices "fake news", but I doubt that everyone will buy that other than the hardcore fans who have been completely brainwashed by his Tweets)

20%? Dude, those tax breaks he gave their employers are just going to trickle down to their already bumped up ($20) paychecks. They will be seeing a more than 20% increase in their net income over the next 12 months. They are going to be RICH and can easily afford slightly higher prices at Walmart! #MAGA!

His base WILL vote for him again as they are too stupid to even know how to spell "tariff" let alone know what it means.

Yeah... I wonder how many people will still think that Trickle Down Economics works for your typical American by 2020 as well. Unless you're in a industry that caters in providing toys to the ultra wealthy (Yacht builders, private plane services, exotic car auctions, etc), the place you worked probably didn't benefit all that much from those top tier tax cuts.

Even in those industries, the entry level employees probably didn't get much more than a 50 cent an hour raise, a small bonus check, and possibly enough overtime to make their lives miserable.

They'll vote for him or anyone on the right as long as they aren't a black, female or Jewish.

Over the last 12 months wages failed to keep pace with inflation, especially in the lower skill sectors. If you add massive tariffs on top of this you’re going to be seeing a very real decline in the quality of life for huge swaths of people in this country.

It will be interesting to see just how much Trump’s supporters will let him pick their pocket before they revolt.

They'll starve in the street before they admit liberals were right.

Put money down on a new Furnace & heat pump last week. Prices are going up in August due to steel tariffs and other tariffs.

For 40 years labor has lost value. People do not understand the issue, or economics.

They think attacking scapegoats will save them. An act of cutting off one's nose to spite their face. Not only is it ignorant, but dangerous as well. They have deluded themselves because the real issue is that Capitalism is evolving and their "leader's" policies have been making it worse, not better. And it continues today. Republican ideas about the economy couldn't be further from the truth.

We do not need to raise prices on Americans by attacking overseas labor. Isolationism is not how we protect "our own". America has plenty of wealth, it just needs to be funneled back into the people instead of all going to Wall Street. A social safety net can more than make up the difference. Instead of fixing Capitalism and making it work in a global economy, morons would rather screech socialism!

Programmed like lemmings, they have a cliff to jump off of. And so they attack free trade. Not only ignorantly preforming the opposite action and failing to save themselves, but also failing to account for tomorrow's labor woes. The loss of shipping jobs overseas is nothing compared to the losses from automation. Isolation will not stop the loss in wages, and it is poised to accelerate.

Republican economic policy will only bring pain and suffering, for it is a delusion based on lies.

If for no other reason than because he's doing what he said he'd do (in this case) and it strokes the tribal feels they've bought into.

I'm pretty much in the "Fine, do it" camp now. This country clearly isn't going to learn from anything but hard immediate consequences.

The Dotard acts like a 70 year old child and America pays for it. I'm sure the Trumptards will come in here and say buy Made in America. Even American cars are made 49% of imported parts.

What's sad is knowing that the US might only oust Trump once he's done severe damage to the economy... and even then, thanks to Republicans rigging elections, it might be by a slim margin.

You oust trump and you still have the VP to deal with. You go from an economic fucking to a religious fucking.

That (literal) $20/month hasn't been helping too much.

Gas prices are up. We just passed a tax hike for the school district to pay for "safety" upgrades to our schools. That will cost me $250 a year more in taxes. Because 'MURICA! GUNS! YEAH! My healthcare premiums are going to jump because my state has one of the highest rates of medicaid use in the country but my governor hates his population and population health and doesn't understand the burden it adds to the health care system and now un-insured care will have to be spread out over the insured.

But hey. SO MUCH WINNING!

Get ready folks.

It's going to get nasty. How much pain we are going to endure is the question.

Ours went up by over 50% this year. Covering my wife and daughter on my employee plan costs more than my mortgage by a fair amount.

I'm kinda tired of all this winning...
