The system favors the haves. How many people would turn away free money on the table if they basically have control? The Republicans won't even stand up to Trump. Even the Democrat donors are crapping bricks over Warren's reforms. Establishment Democrats have long ignored structural problems with our system, and they have favored identity politics and special interests over broad economic policy.

While I agree with you, I don’t see what this has to do with this situation of a NOP mayor setting up a local government created grocery store to help the people in his town.

BTW, the mayor is NOP (no party preference). He’s the one that pushed this solution because he’s just trying to do the best thing for the people in his city.
Maybe the Dems should run as NOP in 2020...then maybe die hard repubs (who don't like Trump) won't feel so dirty voting for a commie librul Demoncrat. :D

This is the fate of rural Red America. Towns shrinking until they can no longer sustain a private sector economy or public infrastructure investment. All the while, the residents will be telling everyone how much they hate immigrants or outsiders.

It's the way the Jerb Creators made it, and they know what's best for America.

It's weird how much you fellows hate small towns.
Yeah, we hate them so much, we ("educated liberal elites" with superb employee benefits) keep voting to raise taxes on ourselves so that people in small towns can get health insurance and their hospitals don't have to close. Meanwhile, they keep voting to block that and sacrifice themselves on the altar of trickle down. And when we finally say "fine, go fvck yourself with a horse," we are the ones who "hate small towns."

So the money you make from hated corporations makes you better than the stupid poor people that inhabit small towns. I can see that.

It's weird how your conclusions are always 180 degrees from the truth.
Read the post right above your's and tell me again how wrong I am.
We have sensamp up there talking about how eliete you fellows are and how stupid people in small towns are. It's mind boggling that none of you see that you're just as narrow minded as those ignorant small town people you so despise. Of all the places I haunt on the web this one is by a wide margin the most bigoted.

Yeah, it's always the people who are fed up with bigotry that are the bigots.

I hope I'm not included in that assessment. It's just damned hard to make a living in a lot of small towns. It's hard for them to keep the money coming in as fast as it goes out to support an emergency room or other public goods like libraries, water systems, sanitation & education. It won't get any better for them, either, until they quit voting Republican.

It's not that they hate small towns, it's that they hate the white, conservative, religious majority in those small towns that voted repub in 2016. Here is a good analysis from Politico of how both repubs and dems have failed rural America.

Gawd. If Dems haven't found a way to help rural America it doesn't change the fact that the GOP has absolutely nothing for them other than wedge issues & FUD. I mean, how does a town attract employers when they don't have a hospital? How about a dentist? When they have dirt poor education systems? When internet is dial-up?

If the Free Market could deliver to those people then it already would have, don't you think? They're engaging in magical thinking imagining that it might.

I mean, aren't the people who live in those small towns a majority vote for trickle down and boot straps?

I leave the hating to white holy rollers with nothing to give but hate for their fellow man, cuz reasons.

I'm curious what efforts the GOP voters think their elected officials put forward during 2016-2018 when GOP controlled the governing bodies of the Fed.

WRTTOP - at least the small town people came up with something, I don't think it will change their minds much, but who knows.

I'm not sure how I am shitting on small-town white folk. I am from a small town that is lily-white and I chose to move back to that same small town after I dropped dead of a heart attack at 36. My town has just over 4000 people living in it, which is tiny since we are a suburb of the state capital that has over 40,000 people. I know I despise the human race and all due to being a sociopath but damn I'd rather see that they are well-taken care until I decide to kill our species off.
