What if we put the guns the carriers have on the top floors to shoot down stuff. That would make me feel safe.

I take in you don't live in the NYC metro area. Let's pretend for a minute that there's a really tall building within a couple miles of your house. Now let's pretend that that building has 5" guns on top of it. Now do you really feel safe with them randomly shotting that thing off in the middle of town?

What I think: The buildings don't have to be taller or shorter or bigger or smaller. They should be better engineered. The old buildings were far too vulnerable to fire. That flaw, and any tohers that have been discovered, should be fixed in the replacement. Other than that, I don't really care, I'm not going to feel like America's a better country cause two buildings in NYC are taller.

Also, I would be opposed to any anti-aircraft weaponry on top of the towers, or any other non-military building in this country.

notfred has it right... it wasn't the planes that brought the buildings down, it was the fire. build similar buildings able to withstand an AXXX hit, and figure out a fire system that won't be destroyed.

The problem is that the bullets don't just go away after you shoot them. The come back down... on people.

From what I understand, the original WTC towers weren't that economical. I remember reading something about them not needing that kind of space? That's probably why they're not considering building something taller.

Yeah, I recall reading somewhere that the towers were never anywhere near full. They always had empty space in them.

Other than a giving terrorists the finger, what point is there in building taller buildings? People are going to be afraid to go in there which will make the occupancy rate even lower than before. And it will just waste extra money.

Build something bigger than the rest of the buildings in NYC, but it doesn't have to go nearly as high as the WTC.
