Trump still has the desire to fire Mueller and 4 months ago it happened again. As even more evidence surfaces against Trump do you suppose that he'll do it without considering that his replacement will just pick up where he left off?

Couldn't a federal prosecutor unrelated to the investigation use the evidence to begin legal action against him if the special counsel is disbanded? If Nixon were still around I'd bet that even he would be astonished at what Trump has done.

The golden rule of Trump remains intact: if you ask "would he really be so stupid as to..." the answer is always "yes, he is that stupid." If he were on trial in A Few Good Men, he'd have admitted to ordering the Code Red about 30 seconds into questioning (and spent the rest of the trial lying that he didn't, railing about the ethnicity of the judge, calling it a fake court...).

Other reports say he's considering going after Rosenstein, which unfortunately can be done if Trump doesn't like his hair. "Your fired" is sufficient.

There's a bipartisan Senate bill coming up but Mitch is saying that there's not enough concern to merit floor time and he's the boss.

The only way Mueller can have any protection is to somehow twist McConnel's arm until he gives before Mueller is out, either directly from Trump or Rosenstein's replacement.
