Trump seemed taken aback when asked why African Americans are still dying at the hands of police.

What a freakin buffoon! Did he really graduate from a University?
Oh those poor white people abused by Police...lolol

“And so are white people. So are white people. What a terrible question to ask. So are white people," Trump told CBS's Catherine Herridge. “More white people, by the way. More white people.”
There is no national database tracking police-involved shootings. But studies have shown that Black Americans are much more likely to be killed by police, even though more whites — who make up a larger portion of the population — are killed. One study that examined the use of lethal force by law enforcement from 2009 to 2012, for instance, found that while victims were a majority white (52%), they were disproportionately Black (32%) with a fatality rate 2.8 times higher among Blacks than whites.

Trump’s comments drew criticism from the American Civil Liberties Union’s Jeffery Robinson, who issued a harshly worded statement saying Trump's answer "not only ignores the fact that per capita Black and Brown people are disproportionately killed by police, it provides the foundation for the dangerous and unconstitutional police practices that result in the deaths of Black people with regularity.

“Trump’s racism is so absolute that he continues to refuse to give even a tacit acknowledgment to the epidemic of police violence against Black people in America," Robinson alleged, accusing Trump of "using the violence and suffering perpetrated against Black communities as a white-supremacist dog whistle ahead of the coming election.”
In the interview, Trump also defended the use of the Confederate flag, despite saying in 2015 that he believed the flag belongs in a museum.
“All I say is freedom of speech. It’s very simple. My attitude is freedom of speech," Trump responded. "Very simple. Like it, don’t like it, it’s freedom of speech.”
Asked whether he understood the flag is a painful symbol to many because it is a reminder of slavery, Trump told CBS that some "people love it," adding: “And I know people that like the Confederate flag and they’re not thinking about slavery.”
Trump has been under fire for his response to the mass anti-racism protests that broke out across the across the nation following the killing of George Floyd in police custody. In the face of demands for racial justice and equality, Trump has instead leaned in on a law-and-order message, painting mostly peaceful protesters as domestic “terrorists” and continuing to stoke divisions.

More racist megaphoning (that's all you can call it these days, its no longer dogwhistling).

Which...he doesn't seem to have any ideas for how to stop police from killing white people either.

I'm confused... Who cares who is killed by police, isn't the "killed by police" part the sticking point here?

Been trying to adopt the above argument with my MAGA in-laws, but they've foiled my devious plans again by moving on to nihilistic levels of cynicism with "No Lives Matter".

He's an authoritarian and a strongman-wannabe. Police killing people is A-OK in his book, because squashing the little guy is what authoritarian strongmen do. It's not a bug; it's a feature.

Police killing black people, doubly so. Two birds with one stone, as it were.

Conservatives need to be honest with themselves - the current president is suffering from dementia or some other serious neurological disorder.

@blackangst1? @Greenman? Surely after this you agree he needs medical attention? Should he drop out or resign?

What's with his right eye?

People are saying he tried shooting a scoped rifle for the first time and you guessed it, he had that scope a half inch away from his eye when he pulled the trigger and bingo, a case of scope eye that looks mostly healed up. Of course, his sons who kill a lot of endangered species on their safaris to "those shithole countries" across the Atlantic put him up to it for the giggles. j/k

The instructors at the sniper school were amazed. They told him "Sir, before you we have never seen such a natural shot. We wish you were 45 years younger and could go out in the field with us. You would have been the greatest sniper of all time. So much natural talent from having the best genetics for sniping."

It was a truly amazing thing to witness and should bring tears to the eyes of every red hatted American that this great man is denied serving his country in combat purely because of his age.

Trump is suffering from being an asshole, though he could have dementia as well. I can't really hazard a guess as I rarely listen to him speak.

Might as well stick with the All Lives Matter theme.

Here's a tip, my point was rhetorical.

Hold on. His argument against the statement that the police shouldn't kill so many black people is that its OK because they also kill lots of white people?

Pretty much.

Trump seems to be a big fan of the govt extrajudicially killing citizens. He tweets in favor of it all the time. Somehow the MAGA crowd doesn't see the disconnect between that and their purported "small govt" "strict constitutionalist" views.

He's a very sick and cruel man with policies to back it up.

I kind of figured it was the spray tan. Like maybe they forgot to put those goggles on and sprayed it right into his eye. So instead of having the weird goggle eyes, his eye is now swollen and droopy.

They are not really constitutionalist, in fact most of them don't even know what is in the constitution, having never actually read it. They are strict constitutionalists in the same way that they believe in the Bible. That is to say pick the parts they like, ignore the parts they don't, and then make up a bunch of stuff that they think should have been in it.
And as for small government, well there is no government smaller than a dictatorship.

Its because Trump dont understand basic fractions he thence assume that neither do you. Its the same with testing. The best most testing in the world. Just not per capita. The truth of the matter is never in play with Trump. He honestly to his bone thinks he can paint any picture of reality that he likes... and make it stick. Barr has probably used the "Winners write the history Mr President" and taken it to hearth.

There is no national database tracking police-involved shootings.

The Washington Post has been tracking police killings independently since 2015.

You can apply filters to further analyze the data.

Approximately 1000 people have been killed by police per year since 2015. 58% had a gun. 17% had a knife. 6% were unarmed. 24% were black. 46% were white.

107 black men have been killed by police in the entire US so far in 2020. 66 had a gun.

135 black men have been killed by homicide in Chicago so far in 2020.

According to The Washington Post "the rate at which black Americans are killed by police is more than twice as high as the rate for white Americans."

"According to the US Department of Justice, African Americans accounted for 52.5% of all homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008, with Whites 45.3% and "Other" 2.2%. The offending rate for African Americans was almost eight times higher than Whites, and the victim rate six times higher. Most homicides were intraracial, with 84% of White victims killed by Whites and 93% of African American victims killed by African Americans.

In 2013, African Americans accounted for 52.2% of all murder arrests, with Whites 45.3% and Asians/indigenous Americans 2.5%. Of the above, 21.7% were Hispanic.

Blacks account for the majority of gun homicide victims and arrestees in the US while Whites (including Hispanics) account for the majority of non-gun homicide victims and arrestees. Of the gun murder victims in the United States between 2007 and 2016, 57% were black, 40.6% white (including Hispanic), 1.35% Asian, 0.98% unknown race and 0.48% indigenous American. Non-gun homicides represented about 30% of total murders in the time period. Blacks were also over-represented in such homicides, although only by about 2.5 times their share of the general population.Of the non-gun murder victims in the United States between 2007 to 2016, 61.5% were white (including Hispanic), 32.9% black, 2.29% Asian, 1.89% unknown race and 1.43% indigenous American."

I think Sam Harris had a very nuanced take on these issues in a recent podcast.
