Things just get weirder every day, but this at least is weird in a good way. If this actually happens, Trump will win a grudging measure of support from me.

Good job Trump, see even a broken clock yada yada yada. IMHO we're at the tipping point where opposing decriminalization would be the out of mainstream political position for a major politician. I have no interest in the stuff myself but keeping the status quo is beyond ridiculous .

He thinks that Canada is stealing all his ratings with their latest announcement around marijuana
so he is making meaningless statements claiming to support the same as those disgraceful...just very disgraceful Canadians.

He probably thinks its going to boost his pol numbers with "The Blacks®"

Maybe if the public and press can keep the heat on him he'll push for a bunch of popular progressive stuff just to get more people to like him. Seeing how much of a slave he is to his own ego, this isn't outside the realm of possibilities, and I just want it for the contortions that Republicans will have to do when he really swings out on something deeply lefty.

More Trump like this I am comfortable with. I just wish it hadn't taken so long to get here.

EDIT: Even if he is all talk, then he's doing less harm that when he's actually pushing forward his bassackwards agenda of literal scorched earth.

Meaningless until he tells the Hill he wants the legislation. Which he's failed to do on basically everything he's referred to like this.
I think there is a meaning here because it helps shape the narrative. Just this statement alone may swing some people towards support, or at least away from opposition. It will be important to gauge the reaction this statement has on Sessions and the more fundamentalist types in Congress, and to see if they have enough clout to get it walked back.

You don't want a "clean" DACA either as that would mean their parents get deported.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/14/politics/daca-parents-flashpoint/index.html
And why not, if the children are fully functioning adults by now and no longer dependents? Aren't the parents the ones that did the crime by coming here? A clean DACA bill ensures that those parents will never, ever have an expedited path to citizenship...only the kids. They are welcome to leave and apply the legal way. I would make a case for family reunification being a factor in any decision, but I think the Administration is looking to end chain migration for all immigrants.

Suffice it to say, the parents will have to leave for at least a few years...that's always been the compromise with DACA.

This isn't how it works. If Republican congressional leadership isn't on board then nothing is going to happen. There is no sign they are interested. They won't expend any effort on it unless Trump tells them, unequivocally, that he will sign because they aren't in the business of wasting political capital.

Adding language to allow parents to stay makes it by definition not a "clean DACA bill" which was my entire point.

Funny thing is he’s probably doing it because
a) Snoop Dog
b) to piss off Jeff Sessions

Either way it’s a good call. Ends justify the result.

Yeah this feels like a way to put a squeeze on Sessions who is hard core anti-weed.

Hey, you say cloud, I say silver lining. I will admit to a bit of irrational exuberance at hearing something like this come from a Republican POTUS, even knowing what a bullshitter he is. And I don't think it's possible to say definitively that this can have no effect on the narrative re the public at large, even if you are right about Congress. Any movement towards a more sane drug policy is good, don't care how we get there.

I gave up a long time ago of trying to guess what Trump will do. Of his supporters I know, some (Evangelicals) think MJ is the literal devil and they'll hate this...others recognize the "War on Pot" for the idiocy that it is. So who knows.

As others said, believe it when it happens with Trump. He can change policy overnight, and back and forth, depending on how he feels while tweeting on a given day.

If he does stick with this, then he gets kudos from me. It very likely will be the first thing he's done or said that I actually agree with that is remotely controversial.

Trump undercuts the GOP. I love it when he's a complete narcissistic idiot.
