Let's assume that responding to allegations is part of presidential duty (e.g. in a press conference). I still don't see how that can indemnify the president against *all* potential legal challenges.
Federal employees - especially the most highly positioned one - need to be helpt o account. Yes there maybe should be *some* protection against civil suits, but it needs to be weighed against the interest of the public. Defamatory remarks should not receive such protection

Imagine if MTG were accusing Biden of sodomy and corruption of her virginity.

Am I the only person who sees truth as a matter of whether or not my ox got gored? It looks to me like Trump is actually accusing E. Jean Carroll of blasphemy. She impuned his royal persona. Off with her head. The founding fathers didn't see the protections they created against mob mentality would fall prey to it. All that was needed was time for the rise of a generation of Americans among whom a vast number are essentially insane.

“I dont think that Trump really wanted to upend democracy” - paraphrasing.

In the wake of the massive diverse media coverage of jan 6th, jan 6th committee hearings this is still the sentiment from a semi sane Trump voter that has even pledged to not vote for him again. Every R to the right of him is in even worse state of disinformation programming cultivated by Rupert and kin.
I dont see how you deal with that until you deal with *that*.
The Alex Jones lawsuit so for has not spawned to followup suits I hoped.

And this part of the linked story?

The Biden administration has sided with Trump on the case. On Wednesday, the Justice Department said in a brief with the court that similar cases back Trump’s argument that his comments were made in his official capacity.

Maybe the shame extends beyond those who voted for Trump?

(Reminds me of the bit in Yes Minister, when Jim Hacker argues that covering something up is 'in the public interest' because 'it's in _my_ interest, and I represent the public, therefore it's in the public interest')

I imagine they are siding with Trump due to the specific law/policy being used for his defense.

Her virginity? I could buy that. She is vile and disgusting. I wouldn't fuck her with your dick :)

Trump has refused to give a DNA sample in the E. Jean Carroll rape case.

His DNA must be under audit.

They’ll just get a warrant.

Or maybe they just go through his trash? There are bound to be some old ketchup bottles he licked the tops of. Or a Big Mac on a string hanging just outside the gates of Mar-A-Lago, and two guys hiding in the bushes on either side with shock prods and mouth swabs (with extra long bite-proof sticks).

His niece Mary can supply her DNA. Won't confirm the sample is from Trump, but it will confirm it's someone related to Mary.

Court denied Trump motion to dismiss Carroll's case.

And of course in his deposition, in addition to calling her childish names, he falsely stated that she said in an interview with Anderson Cooper that she enjoyed being raped! Basically he said he didn't do it, but she enjoyed it or at least, that she enjoys being raped in general...

Seriously, he denies raping her, even knowing her, then tells such an easily debinked lie in the same breath. How can any jurer believe a word he has to say?
