This paragraph in The Guardian article says something about the man:

"Much of Trump’s spending went to companies owned by himself. He spent over $423,000 on facility rental and catering at his Florida resort Mar-A-Lago, and another $350,000 on travel air on Tag Air, the holding company that owns Trump’s jet. In total roughly 20% of Trump’s expenditures in May went to his own companies, or in reimbursements to Trump’s children."

Sounds like someone I'd trust to run my country/taco stand.

No need to act shocked. It's called the spoils system. It is precisely how I would expect a man like Trump to run America.

Based on what Ive read he's too lazy and prideful to do much fundraising. Instead he's going to blame the RNC for not finding a way to open the cash spigots for him. Meanwhile Hillary is raising a river of money that will also flow into the down ballot races.

For a guy who built himself on being the greatest at whatever he does, he's running his campaign shockingly bad.

If all the racism doesn't destroy his brand, stunning incompetence will.

He did say he's willing to spend a billion. Who cares what he raised, he's worth more money than Clinton can raise from countries that terrorize woman and LGBT people.

Hasn't he been self-funding his campaign for the most part? If so then not having a ton of "cash on hand" isn't a big deal as he would just add as needed. It also doesn't seem concerning that he would run catering and other expenses through his companies since hospitality is one of his primary business lines.

I don't care for Trump and don't plan to vote for him but given the material in the OP I don't see any beef here.

Uh... no... he isn't! All he has is a house of cards, no money!

If he DID have the money, why is he so desperately trying to raise some?
He doesn't have enough money of his own to run a campaign. He NEEDS the money!
WHY won't he release his tax returns? Perhaps he doesn't want you to know that he is nothing but a HOUSE OF CARDS with NO MONEY!

He also has said he wouldn't self fund the general election after making one of his key attributes during the primary that he was self funded. I'm sure he is surprised to have made it to this point and now that he is looking at having to spend real money he is balking at it being his own money (if he even has the cash on hand).

Read an article the other day that he only needs to find about a couple of thousand people willing to give the max to him and the party which is $486,000 to meet the goals. So far they have trouble doing that.

You realize wealth, especially a valuation like Trumps based on his name as an asset <> cash in the bank to spend right?

Yeah, no way he has anywhere near that much liquidity. There's a reason he won't release his financials. Because he has a fraction of what he claims he has. If that were to come out, he's exposed as the sham he really is.

He says a lot of things but most of them are lies. You are one of those morons that believe everything that he says.

No, he abandoned the pledge to fund his own campaign, and the extent that he was 'self funding' it before is pretty questionable. He was loaning his campaign money, meaning he could pay himself back with donor cash. So basically for some nontrivial part of his campaign expenses he's loaning himself money to buy things at his own businesses and then using donated money from other people to pay himself back. This sounds remarkably similar to the scam he pulled in Atlantic City.

All that aside, it's also some pretty horrible optics to be funneling cash from donors through your own businesses, especially considering how eyebrow-raising some of the expenses are. Makes you look extremely corrupt.
