Are they suggesting that it wasn't a security risk for the Russians to have this information because it wasn't possible to deduce a source from it, but it was dangerous for the public to have the information? This makes no sense.
The public in this case includes ISIS, who can deduce the most and act the quickest, especially once the media later on reported that the Americans got the intelligence from an operative.

It's a shame the media had something to report in the first place.

Yes, from a leaker who was so concerned that Russia might deduce how the Americans got their intelligence on an ISIS plot to bomb civilian airliners that they proceeded to tell the whole world how and who the American got it from and saved the Russians the trouble.

I'm just pointing out what exactly happened.

Even the NY Times admits:

"Among the details the president shared was the city in Syria where the ally picked up information about the plot, though Mr. Trump is not believed to have disclosed that the intelligence came from a Middle Eastern ally or precisely how it was gathered."

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/15/us/politics/trump-russia-classified-information-isis.html

So where did all that extra information come from? If the leaker was so concerned that Trump told the Russians about this ISIS-held Syrian city (which there aren't many left and most likely Raqqa), why provide so much more information to the media?

You're guessing at motives. Making inferences backed up by your suspicions.

Who is hiring you for Op-Eds? National Review?

the cat was already out of the bag and it was Trump who let it out.

No it wasn't, the cat was out of the bag when the media leaked, providing the extra information that Russia did not know while also alerting ISIS to a spy in their organization (if they didn't know already).

And who are not very chummy with ISIS.

It's well known that the media should not report information that's directly in the public interest after specifically asking which information should be left out of the report to not endanger operations/assets.
