The city’s mayor, Gavin Buckley, said his initial request, submitted last week through Maryland’s congressional delegation, was denied. But he received a call from the White House press secretary around 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday informing him that the president had decided to lower the flags for the five people killed on Thursday.

“Last night, as soon as the president heard about the request from the mayor, he ordered the flags to be lowered,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said. “I spoke with the mayor last night and again this morning to let him know the president’s decision.”

I guess Sanders is lying again. Her statement implies that Trump just heard about the request Monday night.

Number 1: I hate Donald. I hate him more than I hate brussel sprouts.

Number 2: Journalists are not government employees, or national heroes. Its very sad but not everybody deserves a federal grieving.

Number 3: Seeing as how we drop the flag for almost everything these days, its obvious the only reason we didnt do it this time is because Donald is a mean human being. A tiny little man, in a fat wrinkled orange carcass. Fuck Donald. Fuck him till he gets elephant AIDS and dies.

Should we lower the flag for the mass shootings that happen in chicago almost every other day? Get real. They don't have to lower the flag for every death in the U.S., also your link doesn't say anything about Trump specifically saying no. What if he responds with "I wasn't part of that decision"? JFC

IMHO, we fly the flag at half staff far too often.

For federal flags: Dead Presidents, okay. Dead first spouses, no. Dead current Senators, Congress critters, Supremes, okay. Dead retired Senators, Congress critters, Supremes, no.

In Arizona, the Governor seem to order the flag at half staff every time Dominos gets an order wrong. I've been in large groups of people and not one person knew why the flag was at half staff.

Yeah, there's been a couple of days where I'm like, did I miss something, why are the flags at half?

I was working in a rural midwest town, diehard Republicans, when it happened. For days after the Pulse Nightclub shooting they lined most of the streets in the town with American flags (we're talking hundreds of flags) and flew the normal ones at half mast. Of course that county went on to vote 80% for Turmp... But it just shows the disconnect between how people actually feel and how they vote.

You realize 49 people were killed at Pulse by an Islamic terrorist who hated them because they were American, right? And you're comparing that to 5 people killed by an angry citizen wanting to get revenge on his workplace? Both were technically acts of terror but one was an act against our country and freedom. Pretty clear that any group of Americans who die via an act of ISIS-approved terrorism will usually get half masted. Gay or not, doesn't matter. I'd bet even 99% of Repubs will be willing to defend gays from ISIS simply because they are Americans, and you don't F with any of our own without paying the price.

This is what you think happened? lmao.
Yes, please tell us what happened at Annapolis. It was a workplace shooting by a nutjob, nothing more, nothing less. He was pissed that the paper printed something, he sued for defamation, got smacked down by the judge, and seethed for 6 years like a total coward until finally getting enough balls to shoot people who had nothing to do with the original printed article (one lived in VA, the other in FL retired). Any normal person would've taken out, ya know, the people who actually wrote the article. He was a nutjob.

you said "revenge on his workplace"
Yeah, revenge for them printing an article about him. He blamed the paper for the "anguish" he had to endure because of that article. How was it not revenge?
to exact punishment or expiation for a wrong on behalf of, especially in a resentful or vindictive spirit
He thought he had been wronged and went to get his revenge.

that doesnt make it HIS workplace retard.
No, he actually worked at a federal agency with a kush job. But he implied that this article somehow affected his job since he faced ridicule/harassment. So his workplace was indirectly involved.

He issued a statement following the atrocity. It was far too eloquent to have come from him, and it was also very unlike him to even think those thoughts expressed. One of his lackies wrote that for public consumption.

That decision is made directly by the President. That's the law. If Trump can lower it for Billy Graham the worst attack of journalists in the history of the US deserves it. In case you didn't know it the 1st amendment is first for a reason.
