I'm guessing Trump knows that no President in the past 96 years was re-elected if there was a recession.

Trump sees the stock market plunging.
in an knee jerk reaction, he's fired a lot of bullets to get it back up. ($1.5 Trillion money injection, FED rate drops to 0%, another round of Quantitative easing)
he's trying to prevent a recession so he can get re-elected.
But his problem is the corona virus pandemic, a biological problem.
throwing cheap $ at it isn't going to fix it.
once the pandemic subsides and if the economy doesn't get better, he's out of bullets to do anything about it because he shot his wad prematurely, thus causing a recession.
