Gabbard met with Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence on Monday morning, but Trump spokesman Jason Miller said it was “premature” to discuss Gabbard’s potential role in the Trump administration.

She is a noted opponent of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, and was part of a rally on Capitol Hill on Saturday to protest the deal that is supported by Barack Obama.

Stephen Bannon, Trump’s chief strategist, reportedly likes Gabbard because of her stance on guns, refugees and Islamic extremism along with her ability to invoke strong anti-establishment populist sentiment on the left.

Gabbard did not join the majority of her Democratic colleagues in the House by co-sponsoring gun control legislation this summer. She was one of 47 Democrats who voted in favor of a Republican-sponsored bill that requires refugees from Iraq and Syria to receive background checks from the FBI.

Her district is geographically diverse and rural, it includes all of Hawaii except for Honolulu and some of its suburbs.

Last week, 169 Democrats signed a letter condemning Bannon’s appointment by Trump – but Gabbard was not among the signers.

Gabbard, who voted for Hillary Clinton, was a write-in candidatefor vice president among dissenting backers of Sanders who refused to vote for Clinton or Trump.

The Democrat was elected to the Hawaii legislature at age 21 and stepped down from her post to serve two tours of duty in Iraq. Gabbard worked in local politics after leaving active duty and is in her second term in Congress. She is one of two female veterans to serve in Congress and is the first Hindu member.

Gabbard resigned from the Democratic National Committee in protest of Clinton’s foreign policy stance to support Sanders.

The progressive left will lose their fucking minds if she takes a position in his cabinet since many of them want her to succeed Bernie Sanders (if he doesn't run) for 2020. Dear Lord I hope she does, especially since it would show Trump is willing to negotiate and make deals with even the people who hate him (like the progressive left). It would be another reminder that once again progressives were wrong, hell even meeting with her shows that he has the potential to be a successful president who doesn't succumb to blatant partisanship.

Wonder if that comes with a 2020 do not compete clause.

Some info on Tulsi:

Gabbard's political lineage can be traced back to her father who ran as a Republican but later switched parties even though his is stoutly anti-gay.

Tulsi's reputation in Hawaii is conservative in nature and her staff picks bear witness to this leaning. She is as close to a Republican as Hawaii's voters will allow. Her district covers all of the rural areas of the state, all of the neighbor islands adjacent to O'ahu and some of the suburban areas on the island.

This is a dangerous game.
Though Senator Sanders had an independent streak of his own, perhaps she intends to follow in his footsteps.
I would advise her to stay far away from Trump. Props if this is merely to take leadership to strategize policy.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Heh. When I read this thread earlier today I immediately thought of you and your comment about her in the "Who's next in power for Democrats" thread. You were the only to mention her.

And I also had the same exact thought about "keep your enemies closer" when reading this thread.

This would be the first appointment to the Trump cabinet that doesn't sound horrifying. I hope it happens.

She's not a DINO and she's not her father. Her votes in the house have been pretty typical among Democrats and so are her positions:

Hardly some Republican platform. But I guess the second Trump even talks to her it means she was just another GOP Deplorable all along?

She strongly opposes American escalation of the war in Syria, and this is informed more by her military service than her partisan affiliation. She has served on the committees of homeland security and foreign affairs and would make a reasonable choice for cabinet in a similar capacity.
