I repeat: I get it. You don't give a shit about a bunch of foreigners. Fuck 'em.

I don't picture us holding much sway over mainland China. If we did, maybe they wouldn't have concentration camps for ethnic minorities. Just saying, China copying Hitler is of far more importance for human rights, than whether a Chinese city can snub its leaders with impunity. Fermenting rebellion is no human right. Living, without having your kidneys sold.... Muslim Uighurs have a far greater claim for the world's protection.

Money talks, bullshit walks, until America and the rest of the west is ready to divest and boycott China like they did South Africa over human rights issues and abuses these bills are nothing more than virtue signaling pats on the back, If Trump veto's or not is irrelevant except to give Democrats Political ammunition while they benefit from cheap China goods like the republicans.

Yup. Spot on.

So you're saying that it's all the Democrats' fault that Trump and the Republicans are soft on China? And did you say that by typing on your Made in China computer or smartphone while sitting in your Made in China chair?

That's not at all what he is saying.... Like, not even remotely.

That was exactly what he is saying. That somehow it's all the Democrats' fault if the Republican President doesn't sign a bill recognizing the rights of the people in Hong Kong. And this just after the Republicans blamed the Democrats for being soft on China because the NBA was.
Just because Republicans' memories are shorter than Dory's doesn't mean the rest of us are similarly mentally impaired.

What’s funny is that in this case the congressional vote was basically unanimous by both parties and he is STILL blaming the Democrats, haha.

This is the guy the people of Hong Kong want to help them?!...I guess they haven't been paying attention to who Trump really is and what he's all about. Supporting freedom shouldn't be negotiable. But...with trump anything is for sale Including our army. Just ask the Saudis.

Wasn't it just a couple weeks ago that the RWNJs were complaining that the NBA (and therefore liberals somehow) were indifferent to Hong Kong and kowtowing to China?
"RWNJs?" Really?

What did the NBA/HK/China thing have to do with right/left politics? I thought it was bipartisan disapproval.

I want to see him veto it then get overridden. The humiliation should pop his veins.

This plus I'd love to see which and how many republican senators would change their vote, because you know some will.

This is the truth.
It seems that nobody remembers what the agreement was. Hong Kong is part of China. They are having an internal problem. None of our business.

HK people are fighting/asking for their constitution right, it has NOTHING to do with being part of China no one calling for indy. Yes you can call it "internal problem" and so were everything US reach their hands on around the world, that none of ur business too? The west fought very hard to do the right thing, and supporting people around the world to fight for their right is the least the west can do. To quote Cap A

Compromise where you can. Where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say 'No, you move

Nice speech, but how about a real one from a actual President of the United States:

"It must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressure" - Harry S Truman

We've done some terrible things in the name of that cause. Iraq and Vietnam for example.

Ironically, in Vietnam we were helping oppress the Vietnamese people when they were trying to fight for their own independence against the French occupiers. We were definitely on the wrong side of history for that conflict. Unfortunately for everyone, Vietnam had to turn to communist countries like China and Russia for help since they were facing global powers like France and the United States.

See there you go again putting words in peoples mouths that did not come out of them while using old style Soviet tactics known as whataboutism, and for the record no made in china smartphone and the chair was made by the HON company in Muscatine Iowa 52761 division HON industries, date of delivery 117 day in 1975, made in America and still working well, how's your china chair doing?

And for the icing on the cake

Trump signs bills backing Hong Kong protesters into law, in spite of Beijing’s objections.

1. Wonder why it didnt pass in 2014 when originally drafted? and
2. Trump signed it.

Much ado about nothing.
