Trump May Be Acquitted in a Senate Impeachment Trial. That's Not the Same as Being Exonerated

Pretty good take on this impeachment farse

My take is this is good for Republicans. What I especially like in this article:
"Trump grates on the nerves of many—including many supporters—but that is not an impeachable offense. The country will punish a party that puts its own rabid partisan antagonism ahead of the national interest in effective government. The Democrats have no case for impeachment so they can’t go forward. They cannot possibly imagine there is any smoking gun anywhere to unsettle this administration. And as the country enters a presidential election year, they can’t get anyone except their lickspittles in the national political media drooling again about any legal threat to this president."

Worst opinion piece ever

let me summarize

no attempt at any facts

Obama and Clinton’s fault

trump Russia investigation yielded nothing

joe Scarborough made fun of me

Seriously you have to work really hard to find an article that sucks to be that bad and you post it like it is the best thing next to slice bread

Statements like Schumer’s lead me to believe that partisan bitterness, and not the law, are the Democrats’ primary motivation here.

Care to comment on why Schumer would assert that politics can influence Senate procedures for one impeached President but not another?

It reaks of hypocrisy. There are similar contradictory statements from the GOP on impeachment as well.

So much concern for partisan emotion on display here, with so little regard for the law.

Ya gotta ask sometimes, if the Russia investigation was a 'nothingburger,' then what are Manafort and the others in prison for?

The claims of WMD's, african uranium, reconstituted nuclear programs & harboring Al Qaeda were all bullshit. When Shinseki rightfully claimed it would take several hundred thousand troops to pacify post-invasion Iraq they shitcanned him.

All of which has zero relevance to the impeachment of Trump. Or maybe the Country should let him off the hook because Bush was worse, or something, anything to distract us from what must be done which is to cleanse the office of the Presidency from the scum now occupying it.
Take it up with whoever brought Bush into the thread. Bush as a point of comparison provides perspective.

I found your false narrative objectionable. You glossed over all the lies used to lead us to war.
Sorry, not giving a pass to those who lacked the political courage to challenge the march that led us into an unecessary war.

So yet again you blame the Democrats for something the Republicans did, because the Democrats were not united in their opposition to something the Republicans were united for.

I hold politicians to the decisions they have made of their own agency and freewill. Your rationalization is a poor excuse.

What was that new word you learned a couple of weeks ago? Ah yes, disingenuous. Good word.

You just have to check to make sure he's using a widely accepted definition. Still waiting on his own personal dictionary release to avoid confusion.

Of course we shouldn't let him off the hook, but we also need to keep some historical perspective here.

I hear too often he's this existential threat to democracy.

Eh.. I'm just saying we've seen worse.

Trump is a loser who had failed to do anything other than run a reality show from the wh. For all the bluster and noise, there is very little behind it.

He's done little that won't be reversed over time when he's finally gone.

over time also means the possibility of it NOT being done as well due to shifting hands in power.

america's international credibility and soft power has been dramatically reduced at a time when china's is simultaneously rising at a staggering rate. not good for us from a geopolitical perspective. TPP could have really thrown china in a bit of a loop but not anymore. and russia is loving how rocky our position in NATO is thanks to trump.

In terms of lives lost for no good reason, you are right, no one is worse than Bush and his admin, certainly not trump.

What you are missing though is the threat trump poses to our democracy. You may weigh the lives of thousands of humans as being more important than our democracy but that is short sighted as what comes after a failed democracy is usually worse, as in hundreds of thousands worse.

Now we may all look at trump and see an idiot who can’t even build a fucking wall but behind the persona of incompetence he’s either purposely or inadvertently making our democracy weaker. How? Let me just list some of the ways.

He’s managed to throw our political norms, norms that reinforced our system of checks and balances (see the 2nd article of impeachment for examples).

He’s weakened the public trust in our institutions that provide for our safety and the rule of law (see his comments about our intelligence agencies or his politicizing of the courts including the Supreme Court).

He’s weakened our alliances with our allies, our allies who, along with us, help to promote and maintain democracy around the world.

He’s currently working to minimize our influence in the world which has many impacts to our own democracy, including but not limited to a destabilized economic system and power struggles between nations.

But the most damaging of all is that trump himself has been the uniter of people who seem hell bent on taking what trump has done but at a much broader level. See the complete obstructionism of the republicans including not even allowing for a sitting president to have his Supreme Court nominee has a hearing. See the blatant rigging of not only elections but of the results of those elections (Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina and the republicans attempt to weaken the incoming democratic governor).

Of course trump isn’t to blame for what the republicans did before him or even what they are doing now but trump not only enables them but he is able to get his base to excuse it. His use of misinformation is a direct threat to our democracy as a uninformed or misinformed citizenry cannot make informed decisions that protect them let alone our democracy itself.

So while trump isn’t currently a direct threat to a large number of people, he has the potential to be, either through his actions or through the people who enable him.

I would definitely agree this is the worst consequence of his election.

I think NATO will be fine once he's gone, but the overall severe diminishment of American influence and credibility is terrible and damaging, meanwhile China is benefiting from our clown act.

I would say it does go back to at least W on that tho, but Trump has mashed the gas. Europeans I talk are generally horrified and confused by wtf is happening in the US.

I'm expecting the next R president to also be an ignorant, self centered oaf on the international stage. It's a feature of the gop.

Agreed. This is well worth watching-
