Trump is an incompetent.

But...eh, the big change of the past few decades is how the demographics have changed with Latin American immigration. IMO it is something to be wary about but a lot of the anxiety is also misplaced and unfair, i.e. Al Qaeda coming through the Mexican border.

The OMFG! Mexican Invasion! is over. More people are leaving than coming in. Our current challenge is to deal constructively with the aftermath. We sure as Hell can't make peace with ourselves trying to kick them all out. That won't work fer shit no matter how desperately the haters imagine it might. Tossing out the 1M illegals in greater LA won't create any jobs in the rust belt, either, but some people just aren't happy unless somebody is getting screwed harder than they are.

While Mexicans are leaving lately, that is misleading. Compared to two decades ago there are more. So it is very disingenuous to act as if a few years of negligible growth means there is no issue.

This was entirely foreseeable. It's just another entry into the same idea that the whole Trump administration has been: malevolence tempered by incompetence.

They want to do a whole bunch of evil shit, they are just too stupid to know how to do it.

I didn't say that. There are obviously more. 2/3 have been here more than 10 years, many supporting American families. They really are part of America, just doing the best they can like the rest of us. It's beyond insane for people who don't have significant illegal populations to go on this crusade to tear apart the communities who do. 10% of the population of greater LA is illegals. It's gone too far to think it would be any other way.

Or maybe the whole point is that misery loves company so they'll see if they can make California like the Rust Belt. I mean, that's what Trumpism is all about, isn't it? A giant Fuck You! to the rest of America...

Thats the thing. There is two kinds of aliens (trump and everyone else. sry); welfare tourists and and the working kind. The working alien can never be a problem, the thing about taking someone elses job is bullshit. I suppose Elon Musk took a perfectly good Tony Stark CEO spot from a rightful american as well. Many of these aliens create jobs as well.

Have to admit, I would be entirely happy if this kept up for the rest of Trump's administration (or until the line is shut down, whichever comes first).

It was basically intended as an "I'm afraid of brown people" hotline, and that's the way it'd normally be used (let's face it, most serious callers won't be champions of cultural diversity). A line created purely out of malice should always be rendered useless.

And you could also argue that going after old murderers is pointless because many are harmless old people by the time they are caught for murders done decades ago.

The anti-Mexican faction does have some legitimate points which should be treated with respect is all. Not that I fully agree with them or even view them as a priority, but there is legitimate grounds saying that more people from a foreign culture mostly speaking a different language and competing for low end jobs does reduce the quality of life for many people.

"Others made reference to cult 90s sci-fi series The X-Files, or reported sightings of aliens that looked suspiciously like a '"bloated orange humanoid"." :D

You could, but I won't, because the argument & the comparison are absurd.
