Bringing a tumultuous chapter of American history to an abrupt conclusion, Donald J. Trump and three of his adult children fled to Moscow in the early hours of Friday morning.

Accompanied by Ivanka, Eric, and Don, Jr., Trump boarded a specially chartered Aeroflot plane to take him to his new home in Moscow, a nondescript apartment building that also houses the former N.S.A. employee Edward Snowden.

Trump reportedly was in a tremendous hurry to catch the plane and left behind only a one-sentence note, reading, “THERE WAS NO COLUSION [sic].”

At the White House, Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed that the Trump family had fled to Moscow, telling reporters, “The Trump family has not fled to Moscow.”

The arrangements for the Trumps’ exit were finalized last week in the one-on-one conversation between Trump and Vladimir Putin, in Helsinki, a translator who was present during the conversation has confirmed.

According to the translator, Trump told Putin, “We’ll move to Moscow as soon as Ivanka winds down her crappy company.”

Those who witnessed Trump’s departure indicated that his wife, Melania, did not board the Aeroflot plane with him, but saw him off at the airport with a cordial “Be best.”

The funny thing: you can't completely rule out the Trumps actually fleeing the country. They clearly know they're up to no good and don't react well when their backs are against the wall. If they have to provide tax returns, or Mueller's investigation comes up with incontrovertible evidence of crimes, they're the sorts who'd rather live in exile than spend a minute in court.

Actually, I'm not sure if that's better. There's a chunk of Trump's base (including a few people on this forum) who would see arrests as the martyrdom of their Divine Leader. If they fled the country and Trump straight-up abandoned the presidency, they wouldn't have something to hang their red hats on.

I agree, admittedly its a small, small chance but there is still a chance. I can't think of any other President or VP that I'd say there is even a chance they'd flee to Russia.

I published a letter in the Times when the Snowden story first made headlines, in answer to the question as to whether he was a criminal or a hero. I made a comparison with Daniel Elsberg, who chose what I considered a responsible course of action, and concluded that Snowden was a criminal.

In addition to that, I've had a suspicion that Snowden followed a behavior noted by Kurt Vonnegut in "Breakfast of Champions." He behaves and patterns his life according to what he sees in fictional movies. Thus, the movie "The Bourne Legacy" appeared about a year before Snowden skipped to Hong Kong, and I observed that the flight and pursuit plot of "Legacy" was reflected in Snowden's actions, and even his general destination.

It is likely that much of what we witness today is in some way a result of secrets about NSA that have now been divulged and given world-wide attention.

I think the worries about privacy in this regard has many millennials running around like Chicken Little. There was never any time in my life in which I assumed that I had privacy on any sort of telephone. The party-line on the Andy Griffith show was a depiction of life which we all experienced. With the fictional movie "Sneakers" in 1993 and the BBC revelations about the NSA's ECHELON system shared with all the English-speaking allies, I knew what to expect, and I didn't fret about meta-data stored on some server.

Now, in the midst of all that, we have a Putin Manchurian Candidate in the White House. What else has been compromised since Snowden?
