Trump Dominating In Polls

CNN / ORC poll is out. Trump is at 41% in Iowa. And Jeb Bush for all the money he's spending is at 5%. Maybe that is an improvement. Still people have stopped talking about him. Gov Christie gets more buzz than Bush.

Trump's lead is clearly significant, however, and the poll finds him well ahead of the field among a range of GOP subgroups. He leads among both men and women, younger and older voters, white evangelicals, conservatives and both self-identified Republicans and independents who lean toward the party.

He'll go. If he doesn't, he'll just point to their dismal ratings without him there and use it to his advantage. It's a win-win for him either way.

Let's see how his numbers do after he skips the Thursday debate.

I think they should leave his spot up there, ask their questions, and have a two minute moment of silence while he doesn't respond because he isn't there.

I doubt it will hurt him a bit. If it does consider it the kick-off of his third party run. And he was right to pull out. The statements that prompted it were beneath even an outfit just pretending to be real journalism. Fox will probably cave though, like they did before, because they need him more than he needs them.

Their ratings will be in the shitter 1 minute after the debate begins without Trump.

Of course they will leave his spot up. That proves he was welcome and refused to come. It will also allow everyone to ask nasty leading questions/ accusations of the empty podium. That may be the trap he is setting.
This could go either way for him. I'm curious to see what Trump does with the results.

EDIT: I see Megan's whole show contained people against Trump topped off with Michael Moore.

Curious to see how the polls translate to votes. Pollsters only have to answer a phone call or online survey. Voters have to go in. Someone who gets a call but doesn't care may simply say Trump because that is the only one they know, but since they don't care they won't be voting.

Take it from me, don't doubt the polls.

They didn't create him. Murdoch funds pro-immigration/amnesty groups and Super-PACs while also encouraging H1B increases. They couldn't stop him and now he just told them to fuck off.

One big possible wrench in the polls is the snowstorm predicted to start at the same time as the caucus. 5" to 9" of snow is predicted right now over much of Iowa, but it is still a day or two too early to really know. One of the weather model predictions was as high as 40", but that is likely to be an outlier.

The snow may end up being nothing. But if it comes a bit earlier than predicted and/or is a bit heavier than predicted, then the snow could play a massive role.

In Iowa, you must go to the caucus for hours and your whole evening is lost. So, it is a high barrier for many people. Add in the inability to get around in snow and that barrier is even higher. Those who want to caucus but don't normally do it may stay home. These are the people Trump is counting on.

Sanders has a similar problem. His strategy hinges a lot on getting college students to drive to their home town on a weekday evening, caucus, and return for school the next day. For Sanders, dominating in the college cities and losing everywhere else doesn't help him. He just needs to win by 1 vote in each caucus, not by a landslide. So spreading his support around the state is what he needs most. If there is snow, Sanders' strategy is toast.

Basically, polls are unreliable in caucus states and even more unreliable when the weather is nasty.

They aren't leaving an empty podium if anyone is still wondering.

Has any other moderator been tasked with more than one debate besides Kelly? I thought they normally like to spread those around. I think keeping Kelly for the debate was a specific troll move otherwise. Having Moore on her show was a definite troll move.

Iowa will be interesting, but it is a caucus not a primary. People have to be registered for the political party. They hold discussions and break into groups. Members try to change minds before a vote. When I think about it, I wonder if those discussions are anything like what are posted here. Do they have trolls? If so would their only contribution be to say "Never Mind"! I don't see how any poll could possibly be accurate given the nature of a caucus.

They didn't create Trump. They just helped to create the environment in which he thrives & the flock he uses to feed his ego.

What I really can't wait for is for Donald to get the nomination and then watch Fox squirm as they have no choice but to support him, I wonder if Kelly will have him on her show...
