When I grabbed the leash off the wall my dog would go ape shit. She knew what was going on. I didn't have to actually tell her it was time for a walk.

Frothing up a stupid coup is the same concept. Don't have to say the words. The dogs understand.
I know my dog is smarter than most Trump supporters... sometimes Trump supporters just cock their head to one side in complete bewilderment, similar to how a dog reacts to a high pitched sound.

Some solid evidence that Twitter banning Trump was quite effective:

Key excerpt:

Online misinformation about election fraud plunged 73 percent after several social media sites suspended President Trump and key allies last week, research firm Zignal Labs has found, underscoring the power of tech companies to limit the falsehoods poisoning public debate when they act aggressively.

The new research by the San Francisco-based analytics firm reported that conversations about election fraud dropped from 2.5 million mentions to 688,000 mentions across several social media sites in the week after Trump was banned from Twitter.

Which strongly suggests that Trump himself is the point source for much of this misinformation.

Maybe it was that insurrection thing that finally did it. Just a guess.

You think the insurrection shamed them into not talking about these theories any more? I doubt it. More for those who have read the article:

Researchers have found that Trump’s tweets were retweeted by supporters at a remarkable rate, no matter the subject, giving him a virtually unmatched ability to shape conversation online. University of Colorado information science professor Leysia Palen declared in October, after months of research: “Trump’s amplification machine is peerless.”

“Bottom line is that de-platforming, especially at the scale that occurred last week, rapidly curbs momentum and ability to reach new audiences,” said Graham Brookie, director of the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, which tracks misinformation. “That said, it also has the tendency to harden the views of those already engaged in the spread of that type of false information.”

Not like that. I meant Facebook & Twitter finally cutting the head off the snake. Too bad they can't do it the same way they did with Al-Qaeda & ISIS-

That article was posted in April of 2019.
In hindsight they probably should have clamped down on nutjob political propaganda a while back. Would have saved the country a lot of headaches.

You mean like 50 fucking years ago? Yeah that would have been pretty sweet.
There were a few other zingers before it, but at least in my memory, the first 'big lie' told, pushed, and sold to at least conservatives was Reagan's trickle-down. Politicians knew damn well it was bullshit but it sounded great so people ran with it. That was 80-84? So yeah bout 40 years is when the BIG and blatant lies started.

Of course Faux didn't turn into GOPnews&lies til sometime after Desert Storm in the early to mid 90s...maybe the same period that CNN started leaning harder and adding more than just factual reporting.

Well let's hope the Biden administration takes to social media in a really meaningful and significant way to keep the people of the nation well informed, especially in the area of debunking the constant flow of lies coming out of the GOP Ministry of Disinformation.

If hitting social media hard worked for Trump and the Repubs so well, it should be utilized in much more clever and innovative ways for the Dems.

Twitter is continuing its "socialist" ways of "trying to end their way of life" - Rep. Marjorie Greene

That was quote after getting 12 hour suspension from Twitter, as she repeatedly continues to spew QAnon election conspiracy nonsense.

As apparently not being allowed to spread racist and insurrectionist hate for 12 whole hours will end her way of life.

When you're a racist with a career built on conspiracy theories it is a direct assault on your lively hood.

I wasn't referring to Twitter, just nutjob political propaganda. That's been going on for at least 50 years.

Probably a bit longer than that. Probably since the invention of writing - we probably rolled right on using it for political propaganda after we'd worked out how to use it for pornography.

Behistun_Inscription-56a0272a3df78cafdaa04e03.jpg

Most scholars agree that the Behistun inscription is a bit of political bragging. Darius's main purpose was to establish the legitimacy of his claim to Cyrus the Great's throne, to which he had no blood connection. Other bits of Darius's braggadocio are found in others of these trilingual passages, as well as big architectural projects at Persepolis and Susa, and the burial places of Cyrus at Pasargadae and his own at Naqsh-i-Rustam.

though...
Historian Jennifer Finn (2011) noted that the location of the cuneiform is too far above the road to be read, and few people were likely literate in any language anyway when the inscription was made. She suggests that the written portion was meant not only for public consumption but that there was likely a ritual component, that the text was a message to the cosmos about the king.

Though in those days it took a bit more effort to spread your disinformation than a twitter post or a mass email.

Outside of social media, there are millions of traditionally conservative Republicans who were absolutely shamed by what happened at the Capitol. They're just afraid to say so. But it's awfully hard to keep looking down at 'Radical Leftists who couldn't accept the results of the 2016 election' when your own party just stormed the Capitol to try to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

We've been WARNED for at least 50 years.
Nobody fuckin listened.
Barry Goldwater said it many times, the religious zealots will take over and ruin everything. He had seen it, he knew history was cyclical, and he was absolutely correct.

He would routinely re-tweet bat shit crazy Q-Anon stuff, that was a huge problem.
Because a vote is a vote, a person's reasons, integrity, character, standing, those things meant nothing to him, were not part of his filter. Twump's a loon, period. They have to ban him from ever running again or this country's toast. The founding fathers were face palm, period if the Senate fails to convict.

BTW (in a special effort to remain OT): Is it "official?" Twitter's "permanent" ban on DJT? I heard some weeks ago that they were reconsidering it (a routine procedure?). Did they reject reconsideration of his ban, effectively making it iron clad permanent???
