Sorry if I find the logic behind this a little off. Trump has brought in tariffs to protect American jobs. An iconic American company is being adversely effected by those tariffs. So they want to move more of their manufacturing offshore. To remain profitable which is the point of capitalism.

Now a group of hardcore trump supporters. Wants to boycott the company for doing so and trump has publicly supported that idea. What does that say about trump's trade war? That he would rather send Harley Davidson to the wall. Then allow them to offshore?

How does any of this make sense? If someone can explain. To me how it makes sense I will buy them a lollipop. I do realize it's a very public case that makes trump look bad but...how many American jobs is trump threatening here?

Also given that China slapped another 60 billion in tariffs on US exports including LNG (once again donald aus thanks you. It's one of our biggest exports) at the beginning of the month. When is the donald winning this trade war? Harley Davidson better hope it's soon.

Yeh, sure, Harley can keep making bikes for the EU market in the US. The catch is that they won't sell because of the price premium imposed by retaliatory tariffs. I'm sure EU makers like Ducati & BMW think it's a marvelous fucking idea.

Dumb fucks who won't ride anything but a Harley may well end up in the same place as Packard enthusiasts... And it will be the Libs' fault, obviously.

Harley has been trying to offshore production for a while. X percentage of their bikes have to be american made to carry the "Made in America" sticker, they tried to get that number reduced a few years back.
They build a quality machine, but they're stuck in a rut with long stroke air cooled engines, and the old white guy market.

I’m 100% against tariffs but will admit it’s causing political cracks to form in Xi Jinpings grip on China. He’s taking a retaliatory approach now but it doesn’t look like he’ll be able to for long. Unfortunately for the Chinese though whenever dictators feel threatened they tend to lash out.

I really feel for Harley Davidson. They are being singled out by the president of the US. Meanwhile companies like Apple, Dell etc. continue to outsource to China without a peep from the whitehouse. Of course I doubt Harley Davidson have anything like the financial clout of Apple but still it is an iconic American company.

Why's that? What I envision happening is jinping rocking up to the whitehouse with brightly coloured cards and explaining to trump how all of the major US tech companies. Who sell hardware. Have it manufactured in China*.

You can fantasize all you like about trump being a strongman but I doubt it will work out well for the US in the long term.

*The worst part is it's not just the US. It's the south koreans to. With major brands like samsung and LG also offshoring to China. Then there are all the PC component manufacturers who have their products made their as well.

The problem with trumps trade war is the assumption that all of these multi-national corporations are going to ruin their bottom line because Donald Trump!. The dick is going to be gone soon enough and they all have responsibilities to their shareholders that existed before Donald Trump! and will exist after Donald Trump!

I can't believe how gullible some people are.

How do you feel about idiots who don't even have a basic understanding of how publicly listed multinational corporations operate?

Less Harley's, less drugs and stinky old white men and their sleazy woman. Not to mention that I have a vision of less noise.

Because Xi is starting to feel enormous pressure on the home front and he’s got to maintain stability or his hides on the line.

This is really where it will start to hurt. As American workers continue to make less money, the tippy top possess more than ever, much of the purchasing by the plebes will continue to diminish.
