It's Republicans from the late 1960s and early 1970s that kickstarted all of this.

This isn't year 5/10 of Trumpism, it's years 45 of Reaganism.

The government is getting whittled down to bathtub size.

Don't know if I agree or not. Maybe future historians will have a definitive take. Seems to me that Trumpism is equal parts an unanticipated effect of Reaganism and the entirely-intended Stage Two of it.

I feel like there's a Half Life metaphor in there somewhere - Reagan's slogan should have been "Prepare for unforseen concequences".

Trump himself doesn't care about any of the details. He wants to hurt people he doesn't like, and he wants to be worshiped. That's it. There is no real "Trumpism" as policy. It's just, "Trump is the best", and the people who will do his bidding happen to be Republicans who bleat out that "government is the problem", a classic Reagan line.

Everyone else he surrounds himself with who are loyal are in it to destroy the US Government as an entity for good, so that their billionaire patrons can buy up the remnants for pennies on the dollar. The goal as always is neo-feudalism. Oligarchs want to be the founding member of an Aristocracy, and they need the US Government as a democratic (small d) institution dead. This is what you call unanticipated/entirely-intended Stage Two of Reaganism. Think Grover Norquist and his classic ""I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub." That's the quote I was referencing in this current comment tree.

The parts of the government that will need to remain are the parts that allow oligarchs/Aristocrats to enforce their feudalism. Think spending on the military, and hey, look at the current Secret Police d/b/a "ICE" explosion in funding. NOAA? Helps people, fuck it. NASA? Helps people, fuck it. USAID? Helps people, fuck it. Dept. of Ed? Helps people, fuck it. Etc. Etc. Etc. These are all features and not bugs of modern US Conservatism. And fascism is just a stage to get from capitalism to feudalism, although I expect a strong Eco-fascism push in the 2030s and 2040s as the current destruction of the environment increases.

Republicans have spent 50+ years denigrating the US Government because their goal as Representatives of the Oligarchy is to break it down into pieces that can be bought and used as private concerns. They are succeeding, and they know damn well they have to run, not walk, if they want to make it permanent. Which is why Project 2025 was so thoroughly planned and now implemented. Nevermind Epstein, remember when Republican dog fuckers were screaming hysterically about how Trump and Project 2025 weren't essentially the same thing? The end goal has always been the same, Trumpism just gave Republicans cover to speed it up. And you can see other authoritarians and oligarchs around the world taking advantage of the US kicking itself in the balls repeatedly. You don't have to look any further than Israel and their amped up genocide that has been in slow motion over the last 75+ years.

Strike while the iron is hot? The iron is molten and the Oligarch's planned future of society has been molded. It's up to everyone who is decent as to how we get cast.

Suppose you designed a country whose wealth was created by a market place incentivized by self interest and that thereby gave the lions share of that wealth, not to the people with the most developed ethical character who would manage that wealth for the benefit of others, but the most intellectually gifed. Suppose then that it turns out that most successful of the most intellectually gifted of that nation’s people the factor that characterizes the cream of the crop the most successful of the successful are those that never allow anything at all to get in the way of self interest, in other words, narcissistic psychopaths.

Aren’t investors looking for that? Can’t the collective of them buy a government that can’t get in their way? And if a government like that creates sufficient numbers of dollars and sufficient numbers of psychopaths where they start looking beyond national boundaries, at the rest of the world as food, would not the result be that the good for the many is that country falls.

The thing about castles is that they are loved by the well fed and in the end always fall to when the desire to feed children exceeds the will to own billions.

Human society is collapsing. It doesn't just collapse in a free-fall, although it can. The job of decent people here and elsewhere is to mitigate the damage and preserve as much as possible. Hell, all of us alive now could even enjoy some long plateaus for the rest of our lives if we do everything possible to stop digging deeper into the abyss.

The narcissistic psychopaths have a plan to build very strong castles to live out comfortable lives during a free-fall collapse, while they build their fiefdoms from the remains.

It wouldn't be a good for the many for the US to fall, especially in the way it's currently being pushed over.

A liberal system that is motivated by self interest will go, I believe as I predict. You are looking back at a society not yet fully corrupted and don’t want that to fall. I am saying that owing to the structure, being motivated to reap the rewards based on the level of self interest will inevitably collapse. You see what was good about society at a time when the voice of the people was heard. That time is gone , a few have the wealth and the power and are interested only in themselves. I say collapse on that course willlead to collapse because, while nobody wants a few to have everything nobody will change the system because we worhit self interest. The wages of sin are death. It’s the law in that it is simply cause and effect.

So what's happening with the OP's sponsorship issue, or their charitable status, or this:
The funding isn't the big one, its them threatening their broadcast license.

You might recognize this as them realizing that preaching Capitalism people will speak with their wallets and they can't make money when that happens (aka, people tell them to fuck off monetarily). Don't be surprised if both get record donations, which is why this asswipe was trying to demonize that to justify them looking beyond money for ways for him to go after them.

Many stations are still standing, but many hurdles remain.

See ya Sesame Street, good times while we had it.
Sesame Street has been brought to you by the letters H, B, and O for almost a decade. But this year they're now brought to you by this letter:

To put it in context. Trump golfing has cost the taxpayers 60 million this year alone
