Truly great fps titles....besides the ones I already have?

Blowing peoples faces off in Soldier of Fortune II is fun and perhaps slightly sick 😉

Then again killing people with highpowered weapons is not like John Wayne in The Green Berets 😉

Operation Flashpoint runs very sluggishly on my system and is somewhat of a disappointment, still very hard to beat playing Counterstrike online for a good team-based game (then again I have not played for ages now)

DEUS EX...screw Doom III, the Invisible War looks almost as good and is sure to be a better game 🙂

Deus Ex is not a bad game at all - however you can play this game and not realise that you have cocked something up and it will be impossible to get through to the next level - and of course the game will not tell you this either. I've yet to finish Deus Ex but will do soon.....honest 🙂

I'm about 70% thru I guess....

Don't think I saw Tribes 2 on anyones list. Just recently started playing this game. Great fun and it can be had for $9.99 at Electronic Boutique.

My favorites have all been mentioned, but I'll put in another vote for:

Deus Ex
Medal of Honor
No One Lives Forever 1 & 2
Operation Flashpoint & expansions
Serious Sam 1 & 2
System Shock 2
Thief 1 & 2

Maybe another horror, like Undying?
I forgot to mention that System Shock 2 is definitely the game to get if you're looking for a game like Undying. SS2 had the creepiest atmosphere of any game I've ever played. Be sure to play it in the dark, and with the sound pushed up (headphones worked well for me). 🙂

Thief 1 also had its creepy moments, though they were usually on the most frustrating levels.

I've got a few titles to add to your list:

Quake I, II, III.
Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 20003, Unreal II.
Soldier Of Fortune I & II.
Red Faction.
Command And Conquer Renegade.
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force.
Jedi Knight II.
No One Lives Forever I & II.
Return To Castle Wolfenstein.
Medal Of Honour Allied Assault.
Deus Ex.
Serious Sam I & II.

It's not on anybodies list for a good reason. 🙂

Shogo MAD and Battlezone(perhaps 2 as well, haven't played it though) are 2 more I'll add to the others mentioned already.

I walked into a gaming store in Toronto looking for a great FPS. Just got my new computer, so I wasn't up on what was good at the time. The guy sold me Daikatana. I didn't even play it for more than 30 minutes.

I took it back to the store the next day. The other owner asked "who sold you this?" I pointed to the guy who sold it to me, and the guy just looked at him and said "you sold this guy Daikatana!?"

He gave me a full exchange, no questions asked, and recommended Deus Ex. Since then, you know who I talked to when looking for a new game.

Moral of the story: Deus Ex rocks, and great gameplay is more important than great graphics (not that Daikatana had either). Sure Deus Ex can be a bit hard, but like someone else said, you have to use your brain a bit.

I also second NOLF2, Elite force.

Old school DOS goodness, probably won't run well under XPDOOM 1 - 2Duke Nukem 3DBloodFun, Windows FPS but doesn't run properly on either DX7-9 or nVidia GF2-4, not sure which is the problem:Blood 2

Actually you can get DOOM 1, 2, Ultimate Doom and Heretic (not sure about Hexen) to run nicely in GFx cards (or any other OpenGL compat. cards). Go to http://www.newdoom.com and d/l jDoom. It's an OpenGL rewrite/update of the Doom engine. Good stuff I tell you!

System Shock 2, if you have not played this/been scared by it then you've gotta play it. Probably the first game to really scare me, hehe. (the graphics aren't too bad, and the audio is amazing, also the sence that something is always behind you ready to kill you at any moment...)

Return to Castle Wolfenstein isn't what I would call truly great, but it is pretty fun. Also, Deus Ex is a really good game. A lot of people underrate it. It does run slower than it should though. Serious Sam is also good if you just want to constantly kill things and don't care about a good story. =)

You have played it and all the expansions - but Half Life was for me the most addictive game ever - and very atmospheric too.

Half Life is THE benchmark FPS game if you ask me 😀

Agreed! Except for the last level of Half Life that is 🙁

I have actually never quite made it through the entire single player campaign in Half-Life. However, I can tell you that it is really fun. Turn out the light, put on headphones, turn them up loud without deafening yourself, and you will surprise yourself as to how creeped out you can get.

Love what I'm hearing about System Shock 2 - gonna grab that today!
I'd highly advise against it unless you don't mind crappy graphics. The textures are unrealistic and lack any talent, and the characters all have bird beaks and look like stick figures.

Actually the game itself is very old and yes the graphics are outdated but at the time were not bad & it`s still a great game, gameplay always comes before graphics IMHO.

HL was the 2nd game that made me jump off my seat a couple of times besides Doom. Still can't forget those times. Neway, you really should try to finish HL. It's worth it 😉
