TRUFORM? what is it?

i have a 9500 pro, and i downloaded these DNA drivers the other day.
at first they seem to have done nothing, they were supposed to provide higher image quallity and more stable frame rates than the normal cat 3.6's

but once i had a look in the advance settings bit for my graphics card i noticed an extra slider. whether it was there before or not i dont know but its there now.

this slider was to turn TRUFORM on or off, and in every mode including HIGH QUALITY, this featre remains "ALWAYS OFF"
i have since put the normal 3.6's on and got rid of them DNA drivers. but that TRUFORM slider is still there.

can anyone explain what it is or what it does?
is it best to turn it on? will i see a difference in quality? will Frame rate drop?

thank you to any help offered.

cheers

cheers for the link,

but anyone who can tell me in a bit more of a plain english, would be very welcome.
the main thing i need to know is the performance hit.

Truform is done in software on the 9xxx series of cards, so it takes up CPU resources, so there will be a difference performance hit in different games.

Not all games support Truform. Unreal Tournament 2003 is one, and this is heavily CPU dependant, so I'd guess Truform will give a noticeable performance hit.

Truform is a "technology" to make things look better. In UT2k3 it's used on the bots/other peoples heads to make them rounder so they look more like real heads, and not all blocky.

Do a search for Truform on this forum, there are some threads which also have pictures to illustrate the effects of Truform.

Not too my knowledge. They may refine the process and such, but I don't they will abandon it.

Truform is really just a fancy name for FSAA. If I remember correctly, Truform does its thing similar to the way 3Dfx used to do it.

i see, i figured they were moving away from it becuase they did not support it in hardware and it causes too much of a slowdown to do it in software. but i dont think Truform is fsaa, i dont think 3dfx used any type of truform like tech.
