I really wanna share this with you guys, because i never had this experience before which is so exciting to me.

Yesterday i realized the true power of DUAL CORE specially Opteron 165.

I was decoding HDTV recorded Episode of LOST to MPEG2 DVD High quilty, and also on the same time i was playing F.E.A.R with max setting.

And believe me it did not had a trouble at all not even a single glitch.

This is my first DUAL CORE and i am really impressed with it.

VERY cool m8. I was just doing some video and sound editing at the same time. My Opteron 170 handled it splendidly.

Same thing with me, I was converting my Boondock Saints DVD to XviD while playing CS:S much much much faster than my old 2100+ running CS (nonsource)... I cringe to think of how that computer would handle the encoding + CS:S at the same time!

I got my Opteron 165 from MWAVE a couple of weeks ago. Now it is not available except at monarchcomputers.com for $350 damn it is getting expensive.

The truth is even playing F.E.A.R and encoding or decoding HDTV it was using only %50 of its total power, and temperature was amazing 40C full load @ 2.8ghz.

I think this baby will keep me company for another 2 years until a QuadCore Opteron Arrives. :D

What voltage are you applying to your opty to get it to 2.8? What cooler are you running?

Also, question, did you install the X2 "driver" that AMD provides? And if so, did you appply Microsoft's performance patch? I'm running my 165 at 2.4 at 1.4v, and very happy with it...

Well every thing is in my signature.

But as far as voltage = 1.5v and for cooling Thermaltake BIG WATER SE.

I did not installed any drivers or any thing just put the CPU in my MSI NEO4 PLATINUM SLI and thats all.

I love dual cores. Just got mine not to long ago. Ran 2 prime95 to utilize both cores to 100 percent and still was able to rip 2 dvds at the same time(2 dvd burners) and still play war3 without a glitch.

I'm a little jealous as well, but then I realize that I have never wanted to decode a movie and game at the same time. Until that's usefull for me, I'll spend the extra $150 on the video card.

The biggest problem I have is disk problems.. They can't handle anything and processor can handle anything. Ideally MS needs to build a disk schelduler into OS as well.

I'm pretty happy with my 165 also. I stopped at 2520mhz @ 1.45V because I'm doing air cooling and wanted to maintain a quiet computer (Sonata, Scythe Ninja, Nexus, yadda yadda). I haven't pushed the chip to its limits but since I didn't have to go from 1.4V to 1.45V until after HTT was above 270mhz, I get the feeling that it could probably come close to 2.8ghz at 1.5V also.

yeah, i sort of feel the same way too, but think about this: you gotta decode this movie right? and its really long, and its gonna take at least 45min. now, you've got this computer, that is completely loaded down, and you cant do anything on it, except posting anandtech or something...

now, you've got dual core, now you can start decoding, and just start playing. BOOM HEADSHOT!!! :p so now, you can have a great time killing people for those 45 mins, instead of doing less fun stuff.

just my 2 cents.

that's the problem that i had. using one hdd, there's no way i could use my 2 16x dvd burners to burn even at 8x. (it ended up burning at around 3.5x). but when i got a 2nd hdd, dual burning + azureus + WoW was fine :)

Actually, my X2 3800 @ 2.4 does the decoding in about 15 minutes, versus 45 on my old P4@3.0
