True Power 430w PSU w/bad fan.....fix myself?

It's new in box, but not brand new. Purchased a few months ago and given to me since it wasn't used. Naturally, no receipt/invoice for it anymore.

The 92mm fan is bad. It makes a annoying clicking noise. Nothing making contact with it anywhere that I can tell. Looks to just be something on the inside/center of the fan.

I'm not getting a response from Antec support, and I don't have an receipt/invoice to do an rma anyway. Should I just buy a new 92mm fan, crack it open, and replace it?

Have that daunting "Warranty void if seal broken" sticker on one of the seams staring at me in the face....

I would RMA it. You may need to call Antec on the phone to get quick service. there should be a sticker on the PSU with month and year of manufacture. At worst they should go by that for warranty service.
. If they do refuse, go ahead and replace it - nothing to lose. Just use a fan of the same or nearly the same Amp or Watt rating (should be on a label on the fan itself) so the internal thernal speed control will work properly with it. Antec fans may still have a connector though most have gone with direct soldering. So be prepared for cut and splice...
. When I replace a PSU fan, I use whatever size (Amp or Watt rating) fan I want (3-wire) and bring the cable out of the psu and connect the sensor wire to one of the mobo fan headers and the power wires to a speed controller of my own creation. As I think the CPU and the PSU fans are the two most important to monitor. I adjust the fan speed just until the exhaust air from the PSU is reasonably cool.
http://www.bgmicro.com usually has a good selection of fans at cheap prices.

The fans inside the TruePower 430 are not soldered in. They are a 2 wire plug-in type.

I'm not much on millimeters. Which one is 92, the one out the back or the one out the bottom?

I have an original of the out-the-bottom fans. It is a DF1209BA Ball Bearing fan at 0.25A and it is two-wire.

I don't remember why I didn't save the back fan.

In any case, if the bottom one is the one you need, let me know if you want this one and I'll mail it to you at no charge seeing as how this ain't the FS/FT forumn. I have no need for it.

Confirmed, Antec won't do anything since I don't have a receipt/invoice. I told them how surpised and dissapointed I was in that, since you can RMA a $500 video card that has a lifetime warranty without providing a copy of the receipt.

I also said that I'd just fix it myself, and look to other brands when looking for a new PSU and/or case, and recommend my friends/family do the same.

I really am dissapointed. I've been a long time fan of their products. But for something so small as replacing a fan, I find it unreasonable for them to expect you to hold on to a receipt. Especially with a decent length warranty of 3 years. These days, who bothers holding on to a receipt for that long :disgust:

Dude you can replace the fan easily. Just remove the sheet of the black and red wire, join the same color the fan and solder. That's it.

I know it's easy. As it's been explained, you don't even need to solder these. However, the whole point of having it RMA'd, is that the remaining 2 years and 9 months of the warranty on this thing would still be valid.

*edit* Nevermind, I read your post more carefully 🙂 Maybe you could ask that person where he ordered it from and work from there?

Original:
You don't need the original receipt/invoice. They just want some kind of proof from where you purchased it from. I recently RMA'd my TruPower 380. All I did was printout the receipt from amazon.com. It certainly wasn't the original one.

Yeah, was purchased at a local computer outfit, paid cash.

I got a reply from antec, asking if there was a # they could call me at. Don't really care anymore to deal with shipping and waiting. PlasticJesus was kind enough to send me the fan from the same model PSU that he wasn't using for free. So once that's here, I'll just slap that in and call it good.

That fan was supposed to be there by 3 p.m Monday. Tracking tells me that it finally got to at least the city that you live in this morning (12th).

USPS is probably going to tell me that the delay was caused by cancelled flights.

Just checked again. Delivery attempted at 10:35 this morning. I forgot about the waiver of signature box on the shipping label. Haven't used USPS in forever.
