True Performance Increase with Separate HDs?

Would the average gamer see a noticeable benefit from having separate hard drives for their Operating System and their Program files?

Would it be worth it to have a 10000 rpm drive for one of these? If so, which one, OS or Programs?

I'm thinking about putting in a Western Digital Raptor drive along with a Caviar SE16. The Raptors seem to have about half the seek and write times and a much lower latency. Just wondering if they'd actually be worth the extra cost.

There should be no noticable difference in 2 drives set up BUT a suggestion would be to put the usable programs on the Raptor (OS, Games and other programs) and use the second for more of a storage area (pictures, MP3, vidios and maybe back saves now and then)

Hey ccubed,

I'm in agreement with Lorne here.

you'd also find this method easier if you like to put fresh install of the OS when things start to get a bit messy, Its nice having all your data for storage on a 2nd hard drive, so you can drop the OS hd and reinstall very easily. With no interuption to your data.

Programs and OS on the raptor, nice and clean.

fill up the Caviar with data for storage.
